Balloon Twister / Face Painter for Kid Party

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Speaking of swords.

My two boys had an awesome time last night. I sat on the couch twisting up one balloon sword after another while they had a sword fight. I learned 4 new styles.

Choose your weapon wisely: Buccaneer, pirate or knight. Not pictured is a 3-guard sword similar to the one on the bottom.

I am requesting a two-bladed Darth Maul light saber.

Totally doable.

You're giving me an idea. We should have you guys throw out balloon challenges. I just ordered a gazillion balloons on Amazon last night.

Wait your turn, kids go first  :)

Balloons bring out the child in everyone. :) When Mr. SoCal came home and saw the top sword I made last night with the beaded handle, he got all excited and asked me to make him one. Even 43 y.o. boys like a balloon sword to play with now and then.  :D

I wasn't making the request for myself... I just trying to challenge SoCal's new found skills.

Personally... a balloon house with a 3-car wide garage.

I remember back when my boy was younger I would talk to the balloon people about what was challenging and it turns out, trains were (he was into Thomas back then). Since you can make a Lightning McQueen, I'm assuming that trains are easier to make now?

SoCal & Samuroo,

Very impressive balloon art! Are you guys free this summer for my kids birthday party?  Please extend me the TI discount as well  ;)

If you let me know when your party is, I'd love to drop off a cake for your little one.  :) A character may also go on top in lieu of a candle. They do take me quite a while to make so just give me a head's up beforehand if you would like one.

Mike the balloon dude, great job, recommended, that's Ariel and Strawberry.  Kept the little ones entertained while the adults talk.

I've decided to jump in feet first! I'll be working a big(!) event on Saturday and a birthday party on Sunday with 15 kids. Very busy weekend full of balloon twisting for LOTS of kids! I'm more than a little nervous but it's guaranteed to be a ton of fun for them no matter what.  :) Wish me luck!

Good luck... so is this a "real" gig or are you doing a favor for a friend?

I always find entreprenurial... entrepenurial... self-employed endeavors fascinating.

I don't know what's considered "real". What's the criteria for that? The Saturday thing will be a big community event which is hosted by a church.  There are a few twisters who do mainly childrens' ministries. I think that would be awesome so I want to try this. I found a few good designs to make for Saturday that should tie in nicely and see if maybe that would be the way to go. The birthday party on Sunday - the hostess of that - I know that lady very well.  :) I'll be the boss there. Somehow it's no less intimidating for me. I don't know what I'm afraid of. I guess that the kids will "stump me" with something I can't make and then what do you say to them??! Mr. SoCal came up with a good suggestion to keep the line moving which is to give them a "menu" of say, 5 things they can pick from. I think that's a great idea as kids can be indecisive. I may do that or maybe make it a selection of 10.

Last weekend I brought that balloon birthday cake pictured a few posts above to a party we were invited to. The little 6 year old girl was SO happy. I just LOVE the look on the kids' faces when I give them a balloon. Balloons make people happy, period. That's what I like about it.  :)

I guess by "real" I meant if you were seriously considering making this a part-time business.

And the menu thing works best from what I've seen. The face painters/balloon twisters at parties I've seen use a similar strategy (some even have a folder showing the different things) as it makes it easier on both the child and the maker.

Have you done the monkey hanging on a palm tree yet? That's also a favorite of mine (because I am simian in nature obviously).

You should contact the New Home Company about twisting at the Lambert Ranch model grand opening event this weekend.  :)

There are 3 ways that twisters work:  1) Tip work as seen in restaurants. 2) Private / corporate events at an hourly rate. 3) Balloon decor constructed ahead of time for an event either working for someone else's company or their own.

The first two ways falls under the same umbrella of "event entertainment". The third one is different because the balloon person disappears before the guests come to the event. Each one has their pros and cons. Ex: tip work is the lowest paying. Twisters often only do tip work to generate leads for private events. To me, balloon decor sounds interesting. However, it is too early to tell. I need more exposure to all of them to know if it's something I want to do. It might be fun just to do only has a hobby or just for friends. I just want to keep it fun and see where it goes.  :)

Ah, the famous monkey on a palm. I haven't done it yet but it's on the agenda for this week. You're right, it is cute. (And stop being mean to our friend IHO! You blamed him for the earthquake and now this.)

Btw, IHO, I LOVE your suggestion about the folder! I hadn't heard of that before. It is a super good idea!
