Are you allowed to make changes to the interior floorplan? Someone told me once that you usually can, however you can't make any changes that affect the exterior, such as knocking out a wall to expand the living space.

You all might be amused to know that in Coral Gables you can't paint the inside of your house without approval. In the whole city. The zoning police roam the city. A friend of mine was putting in an addition (all propertly permitted), and within an hour of the guys starting work the building and zoning police were there to check permits.
