Lawyerliz shakes her head in amazement at this thread. There are hardly any Asians in South/Central Florida. There are some oriental asians of Cuban descent. There are Chinese restaurants where you can get plantains and black beans and rice with your Chinese food.

Cubans-who are the most successful immigrant group ever--will probably go into foreclosure a lot, because the ones who came here are the ones who were willing to take a risk. They came here with NOTHING, know how it feels, got middle class once, and think, if necessary they can do it again. Cubans are like Americans, they came from everywhere, including America. So, when you are talking immigrants, I think you have to take into consideration where they came from and what assets they brought here. I would guess that Asians had at least some assets when they came here, hence a leg up.

Mexicans come with virtually nothing also. But many if not all of the Cubans were quite well educated and therefore had more human capital. Mexicans, I would guess are less well educated than the average Cuban. None of this has much to do with race. People who are immigrants are self selected and must be different somehow from the people who were more or less the same circumstances in the native countries, and chose to stay.

I tend to think there are some racial differences, but it's hard to say what they are, or if they are of any importance. People from the North tend to be light skinned to absorb Vitamin D. People from the far north tend to be somewhat short and round, so as not to give off too much heat. People from hot climes tend to be dark skinned, and have longer arms and legs so as to shed heat. Why get bent out of shape because of any of this?
