Looks like this project is a halfway house for ex-cons, the mentally ill, and those who have aged out of the child welfare or juvie hall. It's on Visions Road, just a block from Woodbury Elementary.http://goo.gl/maps/4Bm5m
if the Gmap is right it means that these apartments will overlook the school yard of the new JT middle school. you're welcome!!

Hopefully this means that the project won't house any registered sex offenders since they are not supposed to live within 2,000 feet of a school. However, I've read this only applies to sex offenders on parole, so, I don't really know. Also, one look at FamilyWatchDog shows they often do live very near schools. I wouldn't want my kid walking past it but then again, who in Irvine really has their kid walking home.

in college park where we used to live, there was a lady who got her kids in a minivan, drove half a block to the park then her kids would get out and walk across the park to the school. who the hell drives their kids half a block? (she was asian)

speaking of child molesters reminds me of this video.

Most of the immigrant (every) mother's actions are a reaction to something that happened when she was growing up. It's hard for a mother to note that circumstances have changed, and those worries are baseless.

I never let my children walk alone to any house in the neighborhood, and if they do in broad day light, I stand at the door to make sure the other door was opened and they went in. Oh, I stand guard when they ride their bikes/ scooters. No, not even talking about keeping a window open and supervising remotely. I mean stand at the garage door. Where I grew up (it's not Delhi!), that's how kids were guarded. Boys and girls, unless you wanted some pervert to do something bad to them.

I think chipping them like the US Soldier do in Iraq is a good idea....they can then remove it on their 18th birthday.

Of course! All immigrant mothers will buy that idea :P
BTW, Glypmse is on similar lines, only non-intrusive. No?

1. create company making tiny tracking microchips that may be implanted under the skin.
2. sell service to chip children & dogs...
3. profit...

Prob need FDA approval.....

Or you can glue a cell phone to their leg or something.

Just buy a latest smartphone that they like to show off, and like a good parent, charge it everyday so you know it rings when needed :-)
Paranoid parenting Rule 1: Stalk the children
Asian parent Rule 1: Cheaper option, preferably with some technology to show off.

If you chip your kid then you will always know where ur kid is located.  Isn't that one of the biggest problems for parents?
This would probably be a good project for google or apple as they can integrate it with their maps.

If it were all approved and cost $500 would you implant a chip in your kid?
Then you go on google maps and know where he is all the time.

It's insurance.

But u know in the end, the chip will prob. cause skin cancer......

Me= Representative of Paranoid Parents, RPP, which IHO might join also.
If I were to move to the third world (or if they decide to go on those habitat for humanity trips), oh yes, I will chip my kids and ALWAYS keep an eye on their location. In Irvine, I can breathe easy. I will just control them via external electronic device.

PS: I am paranoid, but not so much that I am coming across in this thread :P Any more contribution to this post, I might buy a bunker and home school my children.

Even in Irvine I am paranoid.

Never let your guard down... no matter how safe you think it is.

That always works. Did you know most of the abuse happens from the people you know - friends/ friends of family/ distant relatives/ teachers? It's good to talk to children about potential dangers, and be a little careful yourself.

Did I tell you guys about the abuse I saw in Heritage Park Library's parking lot? I had to call 911 and report immediately. When the cops came, there was shattered glass all over the place, the car was parked right in the center on the lot, and still the cop wanted to tell him if what I saw was a 'lovers tiff' or something serious. Breaking glass on the street and hitting each other to show love? Sounds more like Rihanna's style to me.

Wow, that lady must have really roughed that guy up, huh?

In my experience, Irvine PD doesn't take calls seriously. I've called before to I.D. two burglars who broke into cars in a parking lot and made off with goods. They totally blew me off and hung up on me. Wonderful service. Anything to sweep it under the rug, I guess.

Details on the Anesi Apartments project can be found athttp://media.ocgov.com/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=21826

It is planned as a permanent, low income apartment complex with 104 units of which 11 1-bedroom units belong to the MHSA program.

Here are some quotes from that document:
Project Summary, Service Goals and Tenant Characteristics:
AMCAL Multi-Housing, Inc. has proposed the development of a new construction apartment community in
Irvine, CA at the intersection of Roosevelt and Visions Street.  The new community will include 104 units in a
combination of one, two, three, and four bedroom apartment homes.  The units will be affordable to individuals
and families earning 30%-50% of the Orange County Area Median Income.  Additionally, eleven (11) of the
units will be reserved for households eligible under the Mental Health Services Act (?MHSA?) who are homeless
or at risk of homelessness and have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness.  Community amenities
include a community building/recreation center with offices, recreation areas, a computer lab, an exercise gym
on the second level, and both private and public open space. The recreation center has a generous wade pool
and a large recreation pool with ample areas for chaise seating and tables and umbrellas. A tot lot is located at
the northeast corner of the site, adjacent to a new, state of the art public park with a full range of sports and
outdoor amenities.  A community garden near the entrance provides opportunity for growing edible landscape.
Parking will include both tuck-under and surface parking.
The creation of mixed tenancy projects, meaning projects that integrate MHSA units with other affordable
housing units, is another priority of the MHSA Housing Program. Anesi Apartments directly responds to this
priority by including 11 MHSA-targeted units within a 104 unit affordable family housing project.
Anesi Apartments will provide eleven (11) one bedroom occupancy units of permanent supportive housing for
Adults (aged 18 and above), one of the identified Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) target populations under
the Orange County MHSA Housing plan.  Adults served in the MHSA Housing program at Anesi Apartments will
be age 18 or older with a diagnosis of serious mental illness (SMI).  They may be un-served or underserved
and have been incarcerated due to their SMI and have been involved in the criminal justice systems.
Individuals served may have a co-occurring substance abuse disorder, be homeless or at risk of becoming
homeless, and suffer from functional impairments.
Adults in the program will be of extremely low income with an annual income not to exceed 30% of Area Median
Income (AMI).  At the time of entrance into the Anesi Apartments, it is anticipated that many of the adults may
have no income other than SSI/SSDI and /or food stamps.
Anesi Apartments consists of 4 three-story residential buildings in the Cypress Village community plan in the City of
Irvine. The project site is located adjacent to the Jeffrey Open Space Trail and in close proximity to a wide variety of
ameneties. The development will have 11 one-bedroom units, 55 two-bedroom units, 34 three-bedroom units, and 4
four-bedroom units for a total of 104 units. Eleven (11) one-bedroom units will be set aside for residents qualifying to
receive services under the Mental Health Services Act. Parking will include 200 on-grade spaces with 116 being
covered spaces.

Does anyone know if any other cities have as much affordable housing as Irvine?  How will this much affordable housing impact Irvine?  Thanks.

I wonder how many people in Irvine that are buying homes even realize that 10's of thousands of affordable housing units will be built right next to million dollar homes.......
