Don't forget the Walmarts and the 7-11s... what next... Tommy's and Alberto's?

tommy's and albertos will always be welcome. i have to admit though, not sure about walmart. we went to the walmart in foothill ranch probably in about 2008 and it was pretty ghetto fabulous. i have not been to the new walmart over off of alton so cant opine on that one.

If Irvine wants to become a big city, fine, but at least provide some of the benefits of living in big city like bars and night clubs.  Maybe a football team and some strip clubs.

Ghetto, indeed. I finally stepped foot into that Walmart for the first time ever just a week ago even though I've had nearby access to this store for what... 5 years now. I'm a die-hard Target shopper. Unfortunately, they just didn't have what I needed immediately and Walmart did. I swear to you that no other store in the shopping center attracts quite the same "clientele". Ok. Maybe the 99 cent store. You've got me there.  Aside from that, it's like stepping into a different world. They must come from far and wide because I don't see people like this out & about in Foothill Ranch. Anywho. What was more disheartening were 3 things:

1) This reeeeaaally "down in the dumps"-looking lady started to talking to me like we're second cousins & she's known me forever. Oh, God -- this means I blend in!
2) I kind of liked it. Just a little bit. No. How can this be.
3) I've returned several times since!!  :o

That said, I miss my home away from home. I feel more comfortable at Tar-jay. My Target card arrived in the mail a few days ago. Time to break it in.

we are also target shoppers. we are there about once per week - since we always seem to forget something or just some new need comes up. we have the target card, the 5% discount is nice.  now you get an extra 30 days to return things as well.

You're not looking in the right places. These "people" are out and about in all cities.

I just spotted one of these walking by - in the mirror. Oof! I stand corrected.

But seriously, living here, I see people I know in every other store, including Target. F.R. is just such a tight-knit community. I run into parents of the other school kids, teachers, and people who work at other stores. Going into Walmart, I've only seen one person I knew but everyone else is unfamiliar. When I say they don't look like they're from here -- it's literally because they do not look like they do. It's such a small neighborhood, I'd probably recognize their faces if they did. The next Walmart nearby is down in RSM so I'm sure Walmart shoppers flock here from several surrounding cities. I'm telling you -- take a walk in F.R. You don't see people who look like Walmart shoppers. Except me, of course.

Just visited the new one in Irvine this past weekend, not too bad, people look like everyone else in Irvine, lanes are really wide, store felt really big to me.  Did see a "bum" type couple outside but guess what, they were charging their iPhone with the outlet right outside the entrance.  I still prefer Target over wallyworld though.

I went to the Irvine Walmart.  Only Walmart where majority of the parking lot is BMW, Mercedes and Lexus.  Kind of laughed when I saw that.  Also saw a Hispanic couple begging in front of Walmart.  Thought you myself...uh oh...it begins. Within 2 minutes Irvine PD showed up told them to leave.  AHHH...Good ole Irvine PD...escorting the poor and homeless outside of city limits.

Looks like this project is a halfway house for ex-cons, the mentally ill, and those who have aged out of the child welfare or juvie hall. It's on Visions Road, just a block from Woodbury Elementary.http://goo.gl/maps/4Bm5m
if the Gmap is right it means that these apartments will overlook the school yard of the new JT middle school. you're welcome!!

Hopefully this means that the project won't house any registered sex offenders since they are not supposed to live within 2,000 feet of a school. However, I've read this only applies to sex offenders on parole, so, I don't really know. Also, one look at FamilyWatchDog shows they often do live very near schools. I wouldn't want my kid walking past it but then again, who in Irvine really has their kid walking home.
