Amazon Prime Free Same Day Shipping

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
What's up with Amazon's packaging? I thought there was some national conversation fairly recently about their excessive use of packaging materials, complete with funny memes and all. In response, they promised to cut back. I've very recently replaced almost ALL of my shopping with Amazon and I'm surprised to see it's just as excessive as ever. I'm not some tree hugger. Just surprised, that's all.

Yesterday, I had a garden flag stake arrive. The box could have fit an adult inside of it. Wide and about 5'7". All this for a really thin piece of metal which was 42" long. Metal which really needs no padding. I pulled the paper stream out of it and tried to see how far this would go. The entire length of my house at its widest point!

Right now, a big shoebox-sized package was delivered to me. I couldn't guess which of my orders was inside. A single tube of mascara. What... the...

I'm just reviving this thread because I want Iho's help or someone else who really gets Amazon. I don't get this.

I bought 2 items on Wednesday, 5/25 (2 days ago). I have Amazon Prime. I filtered the list to look only for Prime items. Fine. Found them. They are both in stock. Put them in my cart. Double-checked that the free 2-day shipping was selected. It is. Completed the transaction. Done. Estimated delivery date? June 1st!!!! WHAAAAAT?

What went wrong? I do understand that not everything will ship out immediately. However, these are both fulfilled by Amazon. Someone help me understand this. I've bought plenty of items that ship out right away and are at my house within 2 days. Why should this be any different?

For reference, here are the items I bought:

If the item is fulfilled my Amazon, that is unusual. I've had many 3rd party sellers delay processing or lengthen estimated delivery dates after I've ordered items.

Usually orders fulfilled by Amazon are delivered as expected, but when they are not, their customer service is excellent and they will either give you a full refund (sometimes letting you keep the item being delivered late) or extend your Prime membership by a month. This doesn't help when you are expecting to use something the same day or the next for a special purpose, but this kind of service prevents me from going to a competitor.

I didn't realize IHO had a TI doppelg?nger  :)

Used same day shipping earlier this week. Had to be careful because if I added just one item to my cart that was "same day shipping" but for the next day, the whole order got delayed.

I removed those items from my cart and had to filter for same day, same day when searching. Order was delivered around 8pm (promised by 9pm) and I was very impressed (even though this wasn't my first time ordered same day).
