Hmm... Quail Hill might be a place for you... on the east side where most of the condos are... there is a central park, pool and workout area called The Commons:

I think Woodbury is also walkable and their shopping center has a Trader Joe's and an LA Fitness. Their central pool area has a lagoon like feel and they have gated tennis and basketball:

Yes both look great. If anyone has any other suggestions which communities to look at, let me know. Going to drive around this weekend.

Thanks!

Woodbury Place is a sure bet being the closest to a detached home with just one shared wall or no wall for the stand alone unit. The homes have an attached 2 car garage. A brand new duplex townhome should be available soon at Cypress Village. Be sure to contact TrojanUSC to share 1/2 of a referral fee. Good luck!

Have you considered Avenue 1?  2B/2B + Loft (awesome high ceilings in main room) go for ~$2000.  We were lucky to get one for $1775 a month but I dont think you can get that cheap now.

It has nice amenities like indoor bball, pool, gym, clubhouse.  Downside is parking can be far from your door and lots of rentals going to younger folks who can be more loud.  Its completely quiet with windows shut so no worries on hearing your neighbors though.

I don't know... A home is nicer than living in a tower, but I keep reading comments like these: http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/CA-Irvine-Woodbury-Place-Rental-Townhomes-1115950.html, it makes me feel I should go for a high rise instead.

Hmm...sad to hear about their decline. The IAC family used to rent there a few years ago. It was an upgrade from the usual IAC apartments with the attached 2-car direct access garage. We also loved the key fob to the Commons and the walking distance to WB Town Center. There were many families and the atmosphere was safe. I even enjoyed seeing my neighbor's garage filled his Prius and Gallardo--I could always hear which car he was driving that day  ;)
