I typically don't like the idea of buying model homes either since its been built the first and last to sell, with all the foot traffic in between.  Like buying a floor model "new" car.

And usually the highest priced.  It has all the upgrades, bells and whistles, and usually the better location, but some of the premium is a lot, like that brea model, going for double?

That's just me tho, some would want the house to look exactly as the model, location, and not wait months for a new house, not care about the premium, then the model home is for them

Normally, I'd agree with you. But in that particular instance with the TM's Esplanade, the model was our last chance to buy the plan we liked in that community. Despite being the highest priced, at this point the resales are much higher than the price back then, so it doesn't matter. And the turnover rate in that community is extremely low, so you can't buy one whenever you want -- this plan that just went pending is only the 2nd one that has come on the market in the last 3 years. Part of the appeal of that community, I think, is the walkability to Woodbury town center. That is a plus with Camden Square as well -- the walkability to stores, library, the park, elementary school.

Just reading these posts I have to kind of laugh at myself and how bitter I am about not buying that condo...it just happens that it would have been a perfect fit for us. But whatever--it's not the end of the world.

Oh I guess the links don't work. Anyway, the point is that inevitably there will be discounts at many new communities. I don't really think OH and PP are screwed. Just as I don't think a drop in price on one particular plan at Camden means that it's a bad sign.
