NOAA warns 2024 Atlantic hurricane season could be 'extraordinary' with 25 named storms

'The forecast ... is the highest NOAA has ever issued for the May outlook,' NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad said during the news conference.

'This season is looking to be an extraordinary one in a number of ways.'

The updated 2024 outlook has a 70 percent probability, which includes 17 to 25 names storms, eight to 13 hurricanes and four to seven major hurricanes.

The previous record was in 2010 when NOAA's outlook showed 14 to 23 named storms that led to 12 hurricanes.

Well, we did get rocked by Hurricane Hilary last year. :D

Live in SoCal all my life and as a kid, I don't remember running the AC very much... in the house or in the car.

But then when you are younger... everything is different, stuff is always bigger than you remember and maybe the weather was just as hot and I didn't care.

Not sure where you grew up but in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s I remember regular summer heat waves over 100 in the South Bay, spent most of the day in the water surfing🤷🏽‍♂️

Historical data doesn't seem to support your memory. I don't recall every summer having multiple days over 100. Maybe you lived in South Bay, AZ?

I’ve lived in Southern California for 60 years…and it has many times…just like we have had 4-5 major “droughts “…they happen all the time…it’s never different this time🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️😂😂😂🦄🌈

Wait, what happened to the boiling oceans? Went to the same place as the record-breaking hurricane season. ..😂😂😂😂👎🏽🦄🌈

Party Over for Alarmists as Sea Temperatures Plunge Around the World

Surface ocean temperatures are plunging rapidly around the world with scientists reported to be puzzled at the speed of the recent decline. Less puzzlement was to be found when the oceans were ‘boiling’ during the last two years. Plebs flying to Benidorm for an annual holiday and causing ‘global heating’ was a favourite explanation, although mainstream media put it in marginally more polite terms. For almost two years, this boiling ocean trope has been a reliable standby for every alarmist spiv promoting the Net Zero insanity. But expect the scare to be parked for a while along with coral reefs, polar bears and Arctic sea ice. It is a very good bet that nobody in mainstream media is going to report the oceans are cooling at what are remarkably dramatic rates. Few fear-mongering points will be on offer for drawing attention to this inconvenient news.

These people are also morons!…🤦🏽‍♂️👎🏽😂😂😂🦄🌈

A new kind of chaplain is helping people deal with 'climate grief'

The demand to address climate grief, anxiety and burnout is growing, according to the Rev. Alison Cornish, the chaplaincy coordinator at The BTS Center, a non-profit in Portland, Maine that looks at climate change through a spiritual lens.

In 2017, the American Psychological Association defined climate anxiety as “a chronic fear of environmental doom.” Three years later, a survey by the association found that as many as two-thirds of Americans have suffered from it.
“They are asking how do we deal with regret, with complicity, with lament, with saying goodbye to species,” Cornish said. “They are creating rituals that honor all of those.”

Thoughts on this?

forecast was for record number of Atlantic storms, wrong. These two storms originated in the Gulf with nothing to do with the climate in the Atlantic.🤷🏽‍♂️😂😂😂

What are you talking about? Even activities in the Pacific (el nino/la nina) influences the climate in the Atlantic.

more bologna panic porn. The prediction was for 17 to 25 major Atlantic, named storms, there’s been three.🤷🏽‍♂️😂😂😂

NOAA is forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher). Of those, 8 to 13 are forecast to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). Forecasters have a 70% confidence in these ranges.

We're getting record amount of damages that's for sure. I work for reinsurance clients, Helene already caused nearly $50bn in insured damages. And Milton is not even here yet.

Record damages is because more people live there and the homes are worth more. The power and frequency of these storms isn’t anything new
