Never had the chance to try their beignets, worth the trip?  tri-tip sandwich looks good, chicken roti sounds interesting.

Eleven46 is ok food but so dark and depressing inside.  Also it seems like lately their quality is going downhill.  Got soggy fried onions on my sandwich and sweet potato fries were room temp.

Sorry for the slow response, I've been sooo busy.

I feel like the beignets could use a little more pizzazz. I remember the first time I ordered them, I instinctively asked for a side of chocolate sauce. It turned out they don't have any. The beignets at Eleven46 are very soft. When you take one bite, they deflate into a floppy pillowcase. I guess I prefer the kind that is a little more crispy and holds its shape. But my kids never complain! They love them. If you take your daughter for a plate of beignets, don't worry about wiping up all the powdered sugar that will inevitably wind up everywhere. Doing so with a napkin will only spread it around and streak the table, making it worse, as I soon learned. They will come around with a wet rag and do it the right way.

I haven't had the trip-tip dip yet. I had the chicken roti once but was underwhelmed. Hehe. I know this doesn't round like a very positive review for one of my favorite places but they have enough other things that are worth returning for. I almost always get the same thing - the Asian Wonton Salad w/ grilled chicken. It's very good. Their iced coffee is good & will make you FLY! I had the Spicy Pork once. It WAS good. Just very spicy. A slow burn. The first 30 seconds, you don't notice any heat. Then it hits you all at once. My lips were on fire, tears welled up in my eyes and I was breaking out in a sweat but I made it through almost all of it - barely. I had about three glasses of water. I was suffering and this was AFTER they told me it was not that spicy. I haven't been brave enough to order it again but I will one day. Keep in mind, probably unlike you, I was raised eating nothing but non-spicy American food - meat & potato type of dishes, casseroles, Midwestern type of food, etc. so I am not used to this. It might be much easier for you. The grilled pork spring rolls are the worst thing I've had there. I actually couldn't eat it. I posted about it here on TI ("Why you no like my sausage? Huh?!") The pickled daikon w/ carrots that they serve on the side is pretty good. It's the first daikon I've ever had. The owner is very hands on and the staff is super nice!

Glad to hear that they did well.  I always respected their restaurant and wish them the best.

My wife doesn't like to go there though.  We once waited over 30 minutes for our pho.  Then, they even forgot to bring hers out.  They were more than apologetic which I respect and even gave us beignets after we said not to worry about it.

For those that don't know - Pho is pretty much an immediate dish to bring out from any of the staple places in Westminster/Garden Grove

MmmMMmm... Eleven46 does sound good right now!

Yeah, I agree the service isn't the quickest. Last time I went in on a Sunday after church a couple weeks ago, I convinced Mr. SoCal to stop the car so I could "quickly order up" 2 Viet iced coffees. He didn't really want to stop but since it was just going to be a "quick order", he reluctantly agreed to wait in the car with our boys with the A/C running since it was blazin' hot that day. I timed it. It took 12 minutes to get the coffee. He was like.... "what??" I felt bad asking him to stop after that. There was only 1 other party inside and that family already had their food. When I order the salad w/ grilled chicken, it usually takes around 20 minutes because they have to make everything on the spot. What's funny is, I've also noticed beignets are their "apology food" like you said. haha. They gave me those when my salad once took closer to half an hour. Since it's slow I try to only go if my schedule isn't too cramped.

Btw, they recently began offering boba inside their iced coffee. I still haven't tried boba. One day...

I don't like to get boba in some drinks as the warmth starts to melt the ice which leads to dilution of the actual drink.

Went to Eleven46 last night.

The workers are easily seen working hard, but still the food take a tick over 30 minutes to come out.

Got an iced coffee from there to give it another try.  For Vietnamese Iced Coffee I actually prefer other restaurants that have theirs pre made.

I've had the beignets a few times, but last night I was the first time that I was like, wow! These are actually pretty delicious.

My wife liked her food even though she constantly complains about how long it takes.  (She's used to eating lunches in Westminster/Garden Grove where the Vietnamese food comes out very quickly.

I will continue to go back.  I am never one to let wait time or service affect my feel about food.

That and CA fish grill are probably my two favorite restaurants within FHR  (Innout is a given)

@SOCAL - next time you are at Ikea, make a few minute detour to get some iced coffee here.  Definitely worth it!  Last time I was there, I ordered two of them, haha.  The guy warned me against doing so as they are pretty strong.

@HOMIE- do you agree with this iced coffee?

Boba is warm?? I had no idea.

We went to 1146 for lunch yesterday after church. We had the place all to ourselves. Same as you, it took quite a while to get the food. I got the spicy pork w/ rice once again. It was much less spicy than last time I had it. I could eat it without crying this time. It is very good! One of my favorites. They apparently ran out of daikon, though. You never know what you're going to get. Mr. SoCal came along for his first visit and ordered the Tri-Tip Dip but they were "out" of it. Bummer. I'm not sure how they can be out. The place was empty. So, who ate it all up? lol. I wondered if this was code-word for "we don't feel like making it". He ended up ordering the same dish as I did and loved it. I ordered 1 plate of beignets for my boys. The owner brought some out for all of us. They were much better than last time. Crispy. He said he cut them up into smaller pieces. I like it better that way but, again, you never know what you're going to get so I don't know if he will make it that way in the future. Consistency is not a strong point with a new / small restaurant. Their teriyaki(?) sauce is also different now and it's a lot better, imo.

Will do. Thanks. I didn't even know Ikea serves iced coffee.

Tran Quy Cap's coffee is garbage.  If you want good Viet Iced Coffee, go to Tustin's THH on Newport/Walnut.  $2.75 for an VIC that will make you jittery alllllll day long...

Don't go to Lee's, don't go to 1146 or even Tran Quy Cap for their coffee... bleh!

SoCal do you have anymore FHR food recs?

I second Coleman's vote for CA Fish Grill.

Other than that and 1146, I can't really think of anything that stands out except some of the chains we do like -- Daphne's, Flame Thrower, and Outback. Outback is probably our most frequented place. Mustard Cafe can be both outstanding & meh. It just depends on what you get. I've only done take-out from Sushi Time when I have a crunchy shrimp roll emergency craving. They are good, cheap, and fast. I like them better than Ozen Sushi.

I have yet to try Inka Mamma's. It's on the To Do List. 2 others on that list: La Perlita & Bravo Avo.

Going to be grabbing some Ca Fish Grill today... double swai one with cajun and one with butter, brown rice, slaw and bread.

Dinner will be Inka Special at Inka Mamas...  >:D

I second Sushi Time. Been going there for the last 8 years (I think). Great food, great service, cheap and fast. I like the Crunchy Roll, Tiger Roll, Rainbow Roll, Beek Teriyaki and Eel Bowl. Our to go food for quick lunch/dinner take out. :)

Daphne's changed their menu recently, and management I guess. Horrible food and service now.

@SOCAL - it's not at Ikea - it's like 5 minutes away down Harbor.

HOMIE YOU CRAZZZYYYY!!!!!!  For $2, Tran Quy is way better than THH.  I was at Newport Seafood, ate way too much, and still got Iced Coffee at Tran Quy while driving home.  I personally love it there.  There's a nice nuttiness (no QWERTY) that I like that other places don't always have.

The nice thing about THH is that you can let the ice dilute it and it's still really strong.  If anyone hasn't been to THH I highly suggest going.  The prices have gone up compared to their old spot though.

Next time Homie is going to tell me is that Class 302's food is good. haha

Why are you even all the way out here?  You are too far away from your 'hood.  I did see someone with 1226 tattooed on their triceps.  Was that you?  ( I will be really impressed/shocked if you know 1226)

+3 for Sushi Time.  A little dirty there and flies flying around since they keep their door open sometimes.  The owner is J.A. so most of the food has the authentic Japanese taste vs. a Korean owned Japanese restaurant.  The unagi bowl is very good.  Just stay away from the ramen, it's definitely instant style.
