Where to go for Chinese fast-food in Irvine/S.OC?

What places do you like for fast-style chinese food? I mean the type with a food counter that are almost buffet style and you point out what items you want, no waiters or waitresses.

Many I have been to are pretty disappointing. The worst have been the ones at the mall food courts...specifically Laguna Hills mall and the Main Place mall in Santa Ana.

One I liked is called Yu's Garden near the 99 Ranch store off of Jeffery and the 5. I tried another one in the same strip plaza today, called Hsin Hsin Shau May Deli. The food tasted decent but it was not very warm, definitely not hot...I think the health department would slap them for not maintaining proper holding temps, but if they got that under control they'd be ok.

So where else is good for something fast?

I am absolutely no expert, but a place that I used to visit on my lunch break is 99 Orange chicken near the airport

Sam Woo Express on Culver and Irvine Center Drive....3 item for like..$4.95? The load the plate with food, I usually eat it for two meals.

There's a lot of American styled Chinese fast food in Irvine. Panda Express, Cafe Chin Chin, Pick up Stix, Pei Wei Asian Diner, etc.

Then there's the non-chain ones like Chinez Chinese Restaurant...

Also, look inside Ranch 99.

I used to eat at Wokman... but I don't think they are still open.

Chopsticks in Crossroads closed a few months ago.

There is Panda Express in the Culver Plaza (off of Culver and Irvine Center drive, around the corner from the 99 Ranch).

The steam table fast food chinese take-out has become extinct in Irvine... I didn't even know about those ones you mentioned near the other 99 Ranch so I have to check those out).

I'll try out that 99 Orange sometime soon...sounds like a good possibility if it is authentic... I have not tried the Sam Woo fast kitchen yet but had their sit-down dinner once, with waitress service and it was decent.

I am trying to stay away from the american style chinese chains...they don't taste like real chinese food to me...I come from an Italian family and it is like calling Olive Garden italian food...it might taste ok, but it is not how food is made in italy...the american style italian chains load everything down with garlic and call it italian food...but if you went to italy you might be able to small garlic, though only a hint of garlic is what you would taste...in fact you'd probably need to guess if it was really in there.

It reminded me of getting a chinese chicken plate at pick-up-stix once...there was soo much garlic in it that I brought it back and let the lady know I didn't order garlic chicken...she said I had the right order, both have garlic, but the garlic chicken just has more! Anyway she was nice enough to have my order re-made without the garlic...does authentic chinese actually use much garlic too?
