First post so I thought i would start where it matters most - my belly.

Where would you say has the best sushi for the most reasonable price in Irvine or surrounding cities??

Taiko on Jeffrey if you have a lawn chair and lots of free time

Sushi Wasabi in Tustin if you love ponzu, otherwise you'll hate it (I still dream of the blue crab hand roll)

Sagami in Westpark if you want a Japanese person serving you Japanese food

Tabento in Costa Mesa if you don't mind the drive

Ikko on Baker for great sushi and then the dive bar next door for drinks for a contrast of east vs west

Hamamori in Crystal Court after visiting the Apple store.. (actually any Japanese restaurant within the Bermuda triangle formed by the 405 vs 73 vs 55 is great)

Avoid any place where the sushi rolls on by your table on a conveyor belt or train or water ferry..

Nanasan (means 73) which is by the 73 off of Jamboree/Bristol near Fletcher Jones.  Great omakase (reasonable compared to other places.)  Top quality sushi.

Avoid Taiko's sushi and only go for sashimi. Cooked food there is beyond terrible.

Yes, I strongly agree re: Taiko's.  Their cooked food is horrible.

Haven't had Taiko for the longest time.  So has the quality gone down?  I use to like the sesame chIcken with tuna steak combi.  Baked dynamite and teapot seafood soup were pretty good too.  Line still gets crazy long when I pass by the parking lot.  Under new ownership perhaps?
