Hi, I am considering moving to Irvine for work, but I would like to know more about the lifestyle there.
What kind of activities are there to do in Irvine? Are there many outdoor activities, social events and meetups?

I keep hearing conflicting stories about this place, so I would really appreciate knowing more from locals there :).

Cheers,

There is a lot of shopping and restaurants in and around Irvine.  If you like biking or mountain biking there are good trails out here.  There are also good spots to do some hiking.  I would say that Irvine is more family friendly than it is singles friendly though.  You got an ice skating rink and balloon rides at the great park.  Besides all that, you are very centrally located so if you wanted to go to LA, SD, the beach, or even the mountains you are close each one.  What kind of stories have you heard about Irvine?

It depends on what you're into, but like USC said, Irvine is more of a family-focused city in general. I don't know about social activities and meetups. If you're planning on renting, I think some of the larger Irvine Company apartment communities offer some activities (like The Village and soon-to-be completed The Park). But if you really want a hip nightlife scene, you won't find that here...I'd live in Newport for that.

Is there really ice skating at the Great Park?? Or do you mean the Spectrum one?  The one at the Spectrum is small, no room for me to practice my flips and double axels  ;)

Nah, the ice skating rink is off Barranca between Harvard and Jamboree just South of Columbus Grove.

Yeah, Newport Beach and Huntington Beach (by the beach) are probably the best spots for singles and some nightlife this part of Orange County.

It is totally boring so we substitute our boredom with blogging. The most exciting things happened was a reversed 911 call that a thief who stole a $6.99 necklace from Kohls couture jewelry dept was hiding in the vicinity and he was armed and dangerous.

Cheers,

Check with APEX.ORG, OCA-OC.ORG, SCCCA.US, MEETUP.COM, and YELP.COM events.  Not sure about current status of YGAP.
