What is the story on the house at 2699 Riviera Dr, Laguna Beach, CA?

I believe that is the address. It is the house at the very end of Riviera drive.

Basically when I drive on PCH toward Laguna beach, I see this large house perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean. When I take a closer look, it looks like some windows are boarded up and not in the greatest shape. Birds eye satellite view of the house seems to show a drained pool as well.

I was always curious to what the story is about this house. Not that I can afford it. It just seems strange that a house in such a 'prime' spot would be empty if that is what it looks like it is.
 
I have noticed that house too. It is an awesome location, but every time I see it I think "some day that is going to slide into the pacific." I think the correct address is 2695 Riviera.



Some googling leads me to believe that it is owned by <a href="http://www.hopkinsgroup.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp&page=team_detail&section=3&recid=6">this guy and his wife.</a>



It looks like around 2000 they were trying to subdivide the lot and build another structure. It's probably still in the midst of renovations.

In the pics it looks like soil erosion has actually reached the house in an area. Off the cliff she goes......



Nice house. I guess that is how the other, other half lives.
