What is the deal with these Laguna Hills "Modern/Hi-Tech" Homes?

On the way to the beach the other day, we took a detour through Laguna Hills to see what "no mello-roos" land looked like. And while there are some nice parts of Laguna Hills, there was one neighborhood that just freaked us out.

I always joke about Irvine homes all being cookie cutter, but these ones are even worse (not to mention, ugly).

I've never seen these types of homes in OC before... is there a name for this style? The MLS says "Modern/Hi-Tech" but I watch a lot of Discovery Channel and this isn't high tech. These should be called "Cube" homes.

:)

[Update: Yes, the three pictures below are of three different homes.]

Most RE agents don't know much of architectural styles. There were no architectural vernacular courses offered during the 6 weeks of vocational training. Those who are savvy about architectural styles have already been snapped up by John McMonigle and they are certainly not selling homes in Laguna Hills or AV. The commission from there alone wouldn't even pay for the tie that the agents are wearing.

The houses are cookie crumbs. They do not enough to resemble a cookie. Thanks for the photos so now I know not to go there.

Reminds me of that old joke... where you would come home late at night and walk into the wrong house since they all look the same.

I have a story about this very problem. I know I thought of telling this story before, but I can't remember if I posted it or not. Anyway, there was a tract in Orange built in the 90s, where every third home was the same. The project was horrible, homes stacked on top of each other when they were so unlike the surrounding neighborhood, and they really did look all the same that you could get lost in there because of it. Back in high school someone I knew lived in this tract, and after a night of partying, he came "home" and his key wouldn't work. WTF, he thought that his parents changed the locks on him, so he passed out on the front steps thinking his parents would trip over him to get the paper. Well, when he did wake up he realized that it wasn't his home. Thank gawd the owners were out of town, but he also realized that he was on one street over. He always asked if that was messed up and how he couldn't find his own home, and I said that I get lost in there sober.

I know what you mean, but that's only because we half-ass the style. I'm all for spanish or italian revival if OC could do it right like the movie-star homes in LA from the 1920s.
