Hello,
I am relatively new to Irvine,CA.  The city seems to be nice and safe.

I was checking out the neighborhood and found some news regarding a SCAG mandate that are dated 2009 to build 21,000 "affordable" housing.

Is the city of Irvine really building 21000 affordable housing by 2014?

Anyone knows what has happened since?  Will that be close to 25% of total Irvine housing?  Who are paying for them?

If that is the case, than it is too bad.

Thanks,
Darren

Has there been any recent "for sale" affordable housing in the area?  I'm only aware of Tustin Field I and II which had some affordable units for sale.

There are tons of affordable housing units in Irvine and they are all "for rent".  Many of the large apartment complexes will have a number of affordable units as well.  There are also some apartment buildings that are 100% affordable units.

Here's a brochure from the City of Irvine about where to find the Affordable Housing:http://www.cityofirvine.org/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=12855

Also, see this list of projects in Irvine from the Jamboree Housing Corporation:
Irvine Affordable Housing by Jamboree Housing Corp

Speaking of the Jamboree Housing Corp., I thought this was interesting.

A friend of mine was renting out a JHC unit which was being sub-leased to her by the person who actually qualified. She was paying market rate as you would at any IAC! It made me wonder how many OTHER people do this.  ::) It is obviously against the rules of their lease. She had no idea what she was getting into (sweet girl but young and naive.)

It almost makes me want to check Craigslist and see how many others are making a buck off this.

It seems like JHC is a scam themselves, by promoting "affordable" housing they are benefiting greatly from the government.  The more affordable housing they can get their hands on, the more money they will make.

Has Irvine residents given out the fight?    Or, is it because most the buyers here are foreign or minorities, SCGA wanted to shaft their problem to Irvine, since, most of the people cannot vote anyway?
