Went to see the new Watchman movie with friends at Irvine Spectrum IMAX last night. Boy the lines were long. I think we should've went to Aliso Viejo instead, but we got there early enough for a decent middle seat.

WARNING this movie contains graphic violence, female nudity, sex, and full male frontal nudity via CG. It's a movie intended for adults and not your kids.

The theme is dystopian and politically incorrect, staying true to the original comic for most part. Since I love dystopian themed movies (Blade Runner, Logan's Run), this flick was right up my alley.

For those (like me) who have no idea what it means...

A dystopian society is one in which the conditions of life are miserable, characterized by human misery, poverty, oppression, violence, disease, and/or pollution.

Yep, when it first came out it was a great sensation. Alot of "what if" happening during the creation of this project. "What if Superman didn't have alot of empanthy for humans..." etc. etc. (Character nod to Dr. Manhatten). I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have read the comics since they came out and have a copy of the full up graphic novel.

Just depends upon you. I LOVE "Dune", but apparently it was a spectular flop. I'm sure i'll like the movie, but I must say, comics to movies are a tough sell because writers don't know how to do anything right.... But that's must my 2 cents.

It really depends on if the movie is being made by fans or by people with good intentions. A fan will get "it" and make sure it transfers to film, while anyone else will try to focus on what they think makes a good movie. Marvel Comics has had spectacular success and monumental failure, and the movies that worked were always made by fans. I was completely disgusted with Daredevil, but Spiderman and Ironman are examples of what made comics fun as a (adult) kid.

Yep, I opened my mouth and somehow got talked into being a consultant for both marvel and DC entertainment studios.... But we shall see.

Two tickets for IMAX: $30.00

Fandango surcharge: $ 4.00

Popcorn & 2 H20s: $16.50

One hour waiting line

...

I don't recall any particular scenes to justify IMAX. Darkknight had IMAX scenes, I don't think Watchmen did.

Yes and no, you are around some VERY talented and bright people. Until they talk to you and completely dismiss your ideas. Even the history of the character (like Superman, Batman, WonderWoman, and worst of all The Punisher) was ignored. I REALLY want them to do Capt. America well. They are going to bring in the Avengers, but I am very worried as to how they are going to do Thor and Capt Amercia (talk about an anachronism), hopefully they don't screw it up.

With DC of course you would just HAVE to do a world's finest story arc (Batman/Superman), of course Joker and Lex would be the most obvious choice for antagonists (sp?word?).

But enough of my rambling, I did enjoy Watchman, I feel though that alot of the minutia is lost on todays people. 99.999% of the people never go the absurdity of "The Comedian" and the futility of Rorschach (who are both horribly distored versions of heroes....).

My wife and I saw Watchmen on Friday night. We both liked it a lot. I read the graphic novel a few months ago. She has never read it. Reviews for the movie have been all over the map. Most of the criticisms I have read seemed like small things. I think some people like the overall feel of the movie and some people don't.

So is it about the Inland Empire then?

Momo,

Thanks for the head up on the movie. My son who is 13 want to see the movie. I thought it was Rated R because of violence...I was waiting for someone that seen the movie and ask for the review.

Thanks

I'd have to go Kathy Bates ala Misery to get my point across rather than take being ignored.

So.. think FX are ready for Dr. Strange vs Dormammu?

By the Eye of Agamotto, YES!

As for not listening, hey i'm just the voice of reason.... My main ideas are why reinvent the wheel when you have DECADES worth of GREAT story arcs that just waiting to be transferred over to scripts. Unfortunately some brother's uncle/Kids/nephew/cousin is usually a writer and get the job.

BUT HEY! What do I know, I just collect read, digest, study and enjoy these things. I don't need to go Kathy Bates, as usual, these guys set THEMSELVES up for failure without my help. And boy, is it a PUBLIC failure.

No, that describes perfectly Tijuana and it's been like that since the prohibition (1920s).

If somebody, even by mistake, romanticizes the idea of a dystopian society and how cool and "dark" is that for a movie, you don't have the minimum idea of what are you talking about, drive south 2 hours and right there in front of you you will have that, don't ask me for the details because I can make you puke, Tijuana can easily top anything that Hollywood can come out as a "dystopian society", easily, with "only one hand", very sad seeing what all that people are going through because America's insatiable appetite for drugs, some drugs, like MJ, should be legalized to stop all of that and government should offer treatment for addicts.
