We are planning a trip to Washington DC area for the summer. Which airport would you recommend, since there are so many airport close by the area. Baltimore or Washington Dulles?

Reagan is the closest, but the flights into BWI are usually cheaper. There are plenty of shuttle buses to chose from, and depending on when you arrive, it would be about 20-30 mins to your hotel, or 1-2 hours on crowded shuttle in peak traffic. Driving in DC blows, and anyone not from there, but even from nearby east coast cities hate driving around DC. And, the last thing you want is to get lost in DC, the hood can change with a blink of an eye.

For cheap flights use BWI, for convenience use National.

Use hotwire or priceline to get a good deal on a hotel.......I will be there next week and the exedia rates for 3 stars was about 275. I got a room at the Sheraton in Arlington for 125. per night.

Public transportation and taxis work pretty well in DC.

I'm from Balto, and I recomment BWI. It is half an hour or so on the Baltimore-Washington

Expressway to the outskirts of DC. Are you driving or taking a shuttle or limo into the city?

Dulles is way far out.

Reagan is overcrowded.

I went to school at Catholic University.

Going to the Smithsonian? There are fantastic art museums on the mall. If you like gems,

I always make a wistful visit to see the Hope Diamond in the jewelry collection.

And it is true that you really have to be careful what neighborhood you are in.

What kind of sights tickle your fancy?

You can get a ticket to watch the congressperson posture in their chambers. There is seldom

anyone there doing anything interesting; just some droning on for the purpose of having their

speech in the congressional register.

I'm just happen to be at a conference in DC right now ! Flew in to Reagan National and highly recommend. Was not overcrowded at all and took a 10 min taxi ride to the hotel. Perfect.

Just say no to Dulles, WAY too far out and will cost you $50 buck to take a cab into the city.

Jet Blue out of Long Beach has direct flight to Dulles. There is no direct flight from OC and LAX is a security nightmare. The Embassy Suite is the most reasonable for family and it offers free breakfast. Save some money for lunch and use it for the nicer meal. If you are looking for good Chinese try Chinatown by 7th Ave. Parking is really costly by the civic center. Museum parking is also expensive $27/day

Here are the spots not to be missed:

1. National Art Gallery

2. Washington Monument (Get there early to get a pass or number) Very limited spots due to Terrorist threat.

3. Capitol

4. Library of Congress. Do not eat there most foods there are pre-packaged and old.

5. Smithsonian Museums

6. The National Zoo

7 Arlington Cemetery (Kennedy's grave site)

8 The Pentagon (limited access)

9. Georgetown (Federalist houses) and the 1780 canal lock.

White House is off limit
