I'm in charge for getting a cake for someone who doesn't like really sweet or heavy desserts so I was thinking about getting one from a Vietnamese bakery.  Can anyone recommend a good place to get a cake in Orange County?

I don't know of any Vietnamese bakeries but I like JJ Bakery off of Culver and Irvine Center Drive (around the corner from 99 Ranch).

Also the bakery/pastry place in the Diamond Jamboree center next to BBQ Chicken.

Parents/family have been going there for awhile for Birthday cakes. Usually strawberry or mixed fruit cakes.
La Croissant Dore in Westminster for Fruit Tart cakes.

btw hope u speak vietnamese? :)

Is it possible for you (or your wife or girlfriend, loco) to bake the kind you want? There are many good Vietnamese recipe sites online if you Google it.

Out of laziness I went to the JJ Bakery on Jeffery/Walnut because it was close to where I needed to be.  I had low expectations especially after reading the Yelp reviews of the snobby workers, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.  The girls their were friendly and helpful and even though it would not have been a cake I would have chosen myself, my friend loved it.  That's all that matters.

Glad it worked out for you.

Yelp is kind of tough because I've been to places where my experience conflicts with what has been written. And not everyone has the time to read ALL reviews, so if the first 2 or 3 are negative... it maybe be unfair to whatever is getting Yelp'ed at.

Our experience at the JJ on Culver/Irvine Center Dr. has always been good (as have the cakes).
