I didn't have high expectations of this place, when my wife bought tickets from Costco to here, I was like 'Huh?  But we're so close to Disneyland!'

Tickets are $20 at the gate, so buy online beforehand.  $10 for parking.  Upon entering, you're hit with this oily metal musty smell, but you quickly get use to.  They have a free self guide audio tour, though the player gets annoying hanging around your neck, especially when wife and kid got tired and used me as a coat rack.

The bridge tour was guided and entertaining. My knees were aching from going up those 'ladders' (navy term for stairs).  Lots of planes and helicopters for you to hop into.  I don't think tall people can serve in the Navy, especially on a ship.  Bumped my head a few times, luckily they were strategically placed foam pads.

During the tour I was hoping for an alien attack that wipes out the active naval warships nearby and they have to hoist anchor on good old USS Midway to fight off the alien attack (I watch way too much movies).  I can put my SEGA Afterburner video game skills to good use with the F-14 Tomcat they have on deck, with my iPhone playing 'Danger Zone' as I get the green light from the finger pointing dude to take off.  :)

Oh my gosh, I know. I was just there a couple weeks ago, went to the Maritime Museum next door to the Midway. The subs are so cramped. Hit my head a couple times except there are no pads anywhere! Can't believe the size of the staterooms on these vessels. Tiny beds, too.

My tallest brother is 6'8". Joining the Navy was out of the question. He hits his head on regular doorways of a house. I can't imagine how the men live in those conditions for a month or more at a time especially if they are not knee-high to a grasshopper.

Actually, he's always been very lanky. I'm talking about a person's comfort level height-wise in a vessel. You're what, 4'11"? So, you wouldn't understand.

A nice lieutenant pilot (Not Pete Mitchell) took me on a tour of the USS Midway when it was stationed in Japan in the 70s.  It was a lively place to visit then.

I would be too claustrophobic to sleep in those bunk beds.  As a skinny high school student, I felt they were way too cramped.  I don't think I would fit now.  :P

I checked that height/weight chart and sad to learn that I'm a few pounds over the limit.  :'(
