Yeah, I've seen a lot of articles around this subject lately. It used to be the opposite... during downturns booze usually ticked up if not stayed even with normal years. I guess folks just aren't drowning their sorrows this time around.

Maybe. I'd like to know how much of that drop is actual volume versus price. If times are tight, do you grab the 24-pack of national brand beer or the 6-pack of craft brew? Do you order super premiums at the bar, or suck down a mixed well? And how much effect is the smoking ban having on prolonged visits to the bars?

Too little info to draw any conclusion other than dollar amounts are down.

Booze, tobacco, and gambling are supposed to be immune, but I'm gonna tell you that gambling is way impacted. Vegas is a ghost town, and my night job has 20-30% less players than this time last year.

Interestingly enough, the live game players are just as horrible as they were before.

Yeah, and we have Michelob Ultra in the keg right now. From Hefeweizen to this, must be a recession/depression!

The next step is Bud Light, after that, Keystone or Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I draw the line at Bud.

in college we used to get kegs of milwaukee's best, a.k.a. the BEAST. oh it was beastly alright, but it was cheap. if we got a keg of coors light, it was like liquid gold.

Yep, you know it's bad in Vegas, when you get email spam like this:

I've been getting room comps for the Wynn mailed to my house. Poker players are the bottom of the food chain in a casino customer base. When they start chumming for the likes of me to the Wynn, you know things are bad.

5 people in a room? Do they think that people who stay for $9 per night are saving their money to gamble? Reminds me of crazy drunken days in my 20's when someone would get a brilliant idea to drive to Vegas at 2:00 am and everyone would sleep on the floor in a cheap hotel room. Glad those days are over (but they were kind of fun).

At 15+ years old, the Luxor is grandma's hotel... and granny lost all her money to no_vas when the river failed to fill her inside straight.
