Fifty-eight Orange County elementary schools have been named California Distinguished Schools ? the top honor for schools in the state and the most ever named in the county during a single year.

Newport-Mesa Unified and Tustin Unified led the pack, each having eight schools named among California Distinguished Schools. Six Irvine Unified schools and five Capistrano Unified schools were honored.

Is there really no SVUSD elementary school on that list?

Poor Baker Ranch.

Interestingly, during the prior round of elementary school recognition, which occurred in 2012, 4 SVUSD schools were awarded, which did include Baker Ranch's school of residency -- Foothill Ranch Elementary -- it was recognized for the second time in addition to already being a Blue Ribbon school. Meanwhile, Tustin Unified only had 1 school recognized.

lol I knew SoCal would jump out and defend Foothill Raunch. Even Tustin school district is better than SV - that got to hurt

I do not live in nor do I own in Baker Ranch so why would I be "hurt"? Baker Ranch's secondary schools are also different from Foothill Ranch's. Just pointing out some relevant information that not everybody may know. Each person can decide for themselves what it means to them. If a member is not happy, they can always contribute their own information or else they can turn the page.

Schools are not able to apply for distinguished school status each year. FRE is eligible for recognition in 2016 and will probable be successful due to the parent involvement.

IMO, the school to really watch will be TUSD's Orchard Hills. It will serve K-8 and then feed into Beckman HS. I see this becoming one of the premier public school locations in OC when considering the family income levels involved.

Can't agree with you anymore!

Anyone that bought in that part of TUSD is looking pretty good right now.  NP,NPK,WI has lower MR then most of the newer developments that feed into IUSD and some of the schools are better??? Sign me up!

Beckman will be for the first time hosting a College guidance day for all juniors and the guest speakers will be the current seniors accepted to the Top colleges. This year Beckman has out performed UNI and Northwood in top college acceptances.

A mysterious financial sponsor to this event also invited OC Register and a marketing firm to do a massive media blast. Poor UNI and Northwood are getting a bastard child treatment.

What a coincidence a brand new Beckman humanity building with state of the art faculty lounge will be finished in 2015.
