The Anaheim Garden Walk is open. Sort of. They are still under construction.

It is a very small retail property, which is a plus. You can walk the whole second level in like two minutes. If you park on L4 of the parking garage, you'll be the only one there and be a few scant steps to the entrance to the IMAX Theater. Which is almost empty. And that's a plus, because the parking situation absolutely ****s. There are two entries (one off of Katella, one that is accessed via Disney Drive) and both of them funnel into a single lane one way inside the structure. The Katella exit is downright disturbing, as it is loaded with inattentive and discourteous pedestrians. Somebody's going to get hurt there sooner rather than later.

There's nobody there now, and at 9pm on Friday the line to leave was 25 cars long. I mean there's nobody parked on L3 or 4 and 95% of the spots open on L2. You have to get your parking validated, which isn't a big deal. They want you to prepay using your CC so the automatic ticket reader will speed you out. The prepay machines aren't working correctly.

The IMAX Theater is awesome. It's not as big as some of them I've been to, (or at least it doesn't seem as big). The audio is standard IMAX awesome. We sat in the less prime top row, lower level and I never felt "smothered" by the screen like I did at the IMAX Universal City Walk.

I heard that this is focused on tourists and not locals. Somebody should tell the ladies' clothing retailers, because that cute little stuff they have won't fly in Nebraska unless they've got it in size 14-20. My wife noticed that a lot of the architectural treatments are the same as in Downtown Disney, so the sticky fingers of the Mouse are all over this one, but it sure is a long way from the front gates. Almost too far to walk unless you're staying next door. It'll be interesting to see if they make it going into what I think will be the biggest retail slowdown since 1981. This was an expensive property to develop.

Tech tip: Take everything out of your front pockets at the stadium seating IMAX theater. I lost my phone and keys in the cantilever mechanism, and mistakenly thought I?d got them back. I got lucky the next day when I insisted they let me look inside the theater (even though they insisted that they weren?t there) and I remembered where I sat. Sure enough, there they were ? hung up on the channel that holds the cantilever.

Are you kidding me? It's 400 yards from Disneyland! It don't get any safer than this!

OH! Well, that puts your question into an all new light!

Anaheim was seedy as all getout twenty years ago, but they've redeveloped a buffer zone around the park about a mile in any direction.

Safe? LOL, yeah... it is safe. It is in the flight path of the ghetto birds, plus d-land likes to make the tourists feel safe. It's a tourist with hopeful locals destination.

I have been there a few times now. I agree with no_vas, the parking structure and the way they set it up sucks [strike]Pat Veling[/strike] donkey balls. Gotta dodge the tourists that don't understand those brightly painted giant arrows on the ground. The clothing stores are focused on the locals, and will most likely fail. But, there is a momotree store to open there, and I know momopi is behind it. I like PF Changs and Cheesecake is always a decent place to get your grub on. There are a few other restaurants there, that are not open yet, that I look forward to trying out. There is also a wine bar there, and they have a decent selection of wines I know, have heard of, and am curious to try. I don't know the prices though, but in a way I didn't want to know. They also have a new club called Heat, that OCR after dark reviewed with .jpgs for the where's Ten contest.

I was really impressed with the architecture and design of the place as a whole. It was attractive and very aesthetically pleasing. I would love for BK to check it out and see what he thinks. I am prepared to take the feng shui beat down if I am wrong, but this place looks really cool.

I walk down Harbor from my residence without fear. I haven't even seen the local "talent" hang out in front of the Taco Bell in a while. :-) It will be very convenient to live within walking distance from that wine bar or the club. I may have to add some new stops to my annual Anaheim Resort Pub Crawl.

I'm just glad there are some new restaurants in the area. The existing tourist traps got old really quickly after I moved here.

I went to the Gardenwalk last night to see Batman in Imax, and I will add that this place feels fully safe. There were plenty of security/cops walking around. The parking structure is super tight especially on all turns. I do not not how any cars are going to be able to make right turns in the structure without hitting incoming traffic. Luckily for me there was hardly anyone driving at the time and 3 of the levels were completely empty.

The place in general reminded me of Horton Plaza in Downtown San Diego although many places were still not completed and I wished there were quicker dining options as we were in a hurry to catch the movie. Ending up getting a smoothie.

However, I will admit I was highly disappointed by the Imax. The sound was great in it, but the screen size was pretty small. I would say that the 2 big theatres at the Spectrum, the ones on the left and right when you walk in (#1- The Palace, #21 - Hollywood) probably have a bigger screen than this Imax. It has been over 10 years since I have seen a movie at the Spectrum in Imax, but from what I remember it was much much bigger. You could tell when the Dark Knight switches from a normal camera to Imax because the normal camera would not fill the whole Imax screen, but I was kind of surprised the difference was only 2-3 feet missing from the top and bottom of the screen. I was expecting it to be a much bigger difference (probably is at the Spectrum) between the Imax and normal camera shot. I was expecting a difference of like when you watch letterbox on DVD, not just a minor 5-10% difference. On the other hand, the movie theatre did have a nice smaller town feel than the typical Regal/AMC theatres all over Orange County.

Oh and one more thing is you get a great view of the Disneyland fireworks from the Gardenwalk. However, the sound definetly gets trapped in between the buildings and echoes like crazy. Each time a firework went off, it sounded like a bomb was blowing up in the building.

And this place doesn't seem up to Ten's level yet. Only saw a handful of cute girls heading to the clubs over there. They were easy to spot as their clothing definetly did not match the majority of those at the Gardenwalk.

LOVE the IMAX, I don't know if the screen was the regular 200x80 dimension. My only issue is that I can't get far enough back and the screen goes to edges of my side to side vision.

Speaking of which, which is a good club to go dancing in? (Just normal dancing, nothing too rigid or structured).

Good luck
