For those who reside or have lived in Irvine, aside form real estate prices, how high is the cost of living? I'm coming from Long Island, NY (not Gold Coast area though) so should I expect the costs to be about the same or where do you notice extreme prices if any?

Garfangle.....I have lived out here for about two yrs and moved here from the Midwest. Real Estate aside everything else in my opinion is pretty reasonable. Gas is more expensive, not sure of your age but drinks are a little more pricey, but other than that everything else in my opinion is right in line.

You can find some nice restaruants with reasonable prices and you can also find some watering holes that are very reasonable too.

I just moved back here after being on the east for awhile. I found pretty much everything to be more expensive here (Well produce is cheaper). At least for me the biggest jumps in cost were: all things related to your car (Gas, insurance, registration, repairs etc), rent and entertainment. Some particular food items are much more like dairy and eggs, but other than that its pretty equal.

You can save some money on rent by living in a neighboring city though.
