So I've always had issues with the garage door because that's usually the path I need to bring stuff in and out of the house and as we all know, it's the one door in the house that auto closes due to fire regs.

I bought one of those bigger door stoppers that looks like a wedge:

But it's not high enough for the gap. So I've been using slippers, shoes etc until one day at Target I saw this:

It's called the Stoppy and it works on larger gaps too:

It's made of a grippy material that works on any surface and can hold open windows and other things. I bought, took it home and yes... success.

It cost $7.99 at Target and comes in white or black. You can get other colors at the Under The Roof Decorating website:

The design is ingenious so I thought I would share. Now I just need never-clog drains.

Safety as well... doorstops can come undone, kick down if installed correctly is more secure, safer for little ones...

Once you have kids, tacky is no longer part of your vocab :)

Some kick downs can't reach that gap, plus you have to install it, this is so easy... just stick it under the gap and done (and pretty secure too).

+1 for the kick down.  Actually the locksmith that changed out my locks installed it.  I really didn't want him to install it but it was there later when I checked.  I'm glad it's there now though.  You open the door a bit, kick it down, then let the kids push the door open further and it stays open.

For my master bedroom, I use a more elegant solution since the door seems to want to close all the time.  It's an empty chocolate jar from Costco.  :P

Why can't you just wedge a shim in between the hinge and the door frame? Once you open the door, stick in a 1" piece of wood, and you'll have your door propped open as long as you need.

For shims, you can cut up a Kleenex box and stick them between the hinge and the frame.  I think if the door is closing itself, you add the shims to the bottom hinge.  If it wants to stay open, add shims to the top hinge.

I have a different kind than all the methods mentioned here. I like it, it's cool. It's a magnetic door stop mounted on the lower wall like the photo below except a different finish. Mine is on the garage door to hold it open while I carry in grocery bags from the car.

That would be nice...except I don't have a lower wall to mount to... My door from the garage opens into another door frame...so either kick down or door stops..

The magnetic one is the same as the one Tyler linked to.

Like the kickdown, I just didn't feel like installing something on both the door and baseboard/floor. And I can use the Stoppy on multiple doors.

And you can use it as a weapon if your home gets invaded...brass knuckle Stoppy!
It's actually too soft. Even the sharp edge would be hard to cut with... maybe you can poke out an eyeball... but my iron finger technique would accomplish that better.

Speaking of door stops, anybody use any of the door replacement services in the local mailers to replace their interior doors?

Granted, probably not an issue in the newer construction, but we've got those old 70s wood panel looking doors on many.  Been thinking of updating to get a better fit and the ubiquitous white doors.
