The Fruit Sweats

I feel stupid posting this. But does anybody else get the fruit sweats? I first noticed this several years ago only when I ate fresh pineapple. My face, especially around my eyelids and mouth, would start sweating. I was going to post about this back then and see if this is common but decided not to. I Google'd it. Results are all over the place. Then in just the last couple weeks, I began noticing the same thing happening when I eat fresh apples! I'm eating a Honeycrisp apple right now and have to stop. I don't have any food allergies that I'm aware of. I've been eating these things my entire life. I don't know why there would be a change now. Does this happen to anybody else? I'm going to try to remember to ask my doctor about it the next time I see her. I don't have trouble breathing or anything like that so I'm not even sure it's an allergy. No clue, really!

thats weird.

i start sweating occasionally if i eat really hot (taste not temp) food or a really hot hot sauce. but no fruit sweats here.

Jesus Christ, Iho.  The M word?!?!! I'll have you know I'm a good number of years away from that, thank you very much.  >:( Come 'ere so I can kick you.

To my knowledge, I'm not diabetic. I'll keep it in mind, though. Do you have diabetes? Are you saying you get the fruit sweats?

You might be allergic to the pesticides or whatever chemicals they put on the fruits.  Try washing the fruit thoroughly with soap and then peel the skin before eating and see if that helps.

But I don't eat the thorny skin of pineapple.

Pesticide residue will be present even on the inside, especially if it's not washed before cutting.

I had a similar reaction a long time ago when I ate some fruit (forget what it was, might have been peaches or apples), when my lips felt warm and itchy and swelled up a bit.  Nowadays I always wash (with fruit/veggie soap spray) and peel my fruit.  Haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, it's the exact same feeling as eating a hot pepper, minus the burning mouth.
