Looks like IR is giving up on just profiling Irvine HELOC abuse and broadening his scope to all of Orange County:

After nearly five years of writing for the Irvine Housing Blog, I feel it is time to expand my gaze beyond Irvine to the rest of Orange County. The Irvine housing market does not exist in a vacuum. Properties in nearby communities compete with Irvine for the attention of buyers. To really understand any housing market, we need to review properties and market conditions in surrounding communities. Therefore, the new blog will examine interesting properties in all of Orange County, California.

At first I thought he would just be doing both, but in the comments, he said he will no longer be posting on the IHB at the end of the year:

what does this mean for irvinehousing blog?  do you write for both or only for the new blog?

I will provide posts for both blogs through the end of the year, then I will post only on the new blog.

So I guess Irvine just doesn't have enough HELOC Abusers and Strategic Default Squatters for IR to do daily posts on. I actually thought he would start doing LasVegasHousingBlog.com but maybe next year.

The new blog is at:

www.OCHousingNews.com

Looks like the IHB... but a bit more chaotic (at least to me).

RIP IHB?

RIP IHB?

seems like a good decision. He was out of material at least 12 months ago. He has been rehashing the same things and then started posting about things he didn't fully grasp at times. His most interesting posts were about his experience in Las Vegas.

The home price in Irvine fringes are in rebound. Consumers know if they can't get into Israel the Holy Land the Gaza strip would do just fine.

It seems my RIP was premature, zovall will be continuing on with the IHB:

I?d like for IHB to continue with a focus on Irvine and am currently looking for writers and ideas for posts.  If there is something you want to see discussed or if you are interested in participating, you can reach me at zovall@gmail.com.
RC... here's your chance to write an article on why living in Irvine is evil. :D

I can't believe, I'm being sucked into the whole IHB/TI/OCR black-hole time transporter again... I can't be posting on this thing for hours on end like I used to... please...!

You guys are still talking about me...?  I don't know half of you guys anymore...!

I've really made amends with Irvine; sure the few posts of..:

Oh, my mom is giving me a -free- house to rent in - still erks something really wicked inside but I've accepted all that...

I'm really looking forward to 2012... we love visiting Irvine & yes, the wife now looongs for the masterplan lifestyle again...  bla...

Hope the new blog site is streamlined a bit. The current look is way too busy for my tastes.

IHB Parental Assistance Poll:

[  ]  I came from a dysfunctional family.  I hardly see my parents and they don?t know the grand children.  They have never supported me financially growing up, besides room and board.  I was on my own in college and the wedding.  They certainly will not be helping with the house and I?ll be lucky to get a penny when they pass away.

[  ]  My parents are good but strict people.  They have never really supported me financially growing up besides room and board.  I was on my own at 18, and never looked back.  They helped out a little in college and the wedding when we were tight here and there, but that was it.  I didn?t get any help with the house and I won?t be surprise if they will their inheritance to their favorite charity.

[  ]  I have a good relationship with my parents.  I grew up with allowances and regular cash gifts.  They helped me out in college along with financial aid.  They also helped us out with the wedding.  I can expect them to help with the down payment; say from $10k to $50k.  I want my parents to have a good retirement, but expect to be willed a majority of their wealth.

[  ]  I have an excellent relationship with my parents.  I grew up with a substantial allowance and even got a (new) car in high school from them.  They have been a substantial help all throughout my life, college, wedding and starting a family.  We can expect at least a 10%-20% ($100k-$200k) down payment help from them.  I expect to be willed a majority of their wealth.

[  ]  I have an exceptional relationship with my parents.  I had no budget growing up, my parents were loaded!  I always got the latest gadgets, cloths & toys.  I was the one with the BMW in high school.  Financial aid, what is that?  In college they bought me a new condo to live in.  I?ll be getting at least 50%-75% or more down payment help with the house.  I?ll be running the family business when my parents pass away.

[  ]  I have a ?unique? relationship with my parents.  Their money is my money, my money is their money; there is no differentiation.  I helped them ?invest? (free & clear) our money in a SFR which my family lives in.  There are very few boundaries, and my wife just doesn?t understand.

It's going to be tough for IHB to continue without Larry unless IHB can partner up with some super star realtor (Irvine Realtor/USCTrojan/Frank Dunn).
Is Frank Dunn an amalgam of Frank Agahi and Mike Dunn? :D

If IR2 and USC took over that webpage I'd dust of the old CK name come out of my semi-retirement and post over there every day.
Unfortunately I don't think Larry & Zovall would ever sell it to us or allow us to take it over.

zovall is looking for contributors to post articles.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you or IR2 gave him an article or three to put on his site.

Heck... he probably would let me post my 3CWG love story.

I've made an offer to contribute whatever I can to help zovall. He deserves a lot of credit for what he's done to keep things going over there, behind the scenes. If you've never met him, you're missing out. A finer person you'll not find.

And say what you will about him, Larry deserves a good deal of credit, too, for creating new posts daily for the last few years. That's a monumental amount of work. I had stopped posting (or even checking in) over there out of respect for their business dealings. I'm sure they're doing fine.

I don't know the details of the spin-off (and even if I did, I think that would be best left to the principals to share) but I wish them both well.

My thoughts are with Zovall (the originator of IHB.) He's been a friend to me and this site for years. He may not have been the lead-singer of the band but he has paid his dues, nonetheless. Even with as busy as he's been on IHB plus the regular daily grind stuff we all go through, he has always found the time to help me in addition whenever I've needed it. He's a true asset to Irvine's little corner of the web and to anyone who knows him. I've offered to do whatever I can to help him take IHB to new places if that's his wish. (He invited me to write but I'd rather just do everyone a favor and spare you all.) So, I'll continue to look for another avenue to help. Zovall is sort of a solitary guy. I wish you all could know him like I do. Trust me, you'd like him (and his wife - a sweet couple). You'd want to see him achieve (more) great things. With his imagination, determination, and his skills, I have a feeling this won't be the last we hear from him at IHB.

I was referring to whoever wrote 'more amenities than Taj Mahal and Taipei 101 combined' in a property description. Someone like that should write more.
That's Mike Dunn...some of his stuff is classic.  haha

I've only briefly seen Zovall (and his wife) at one of the IHB book signings. We've communicated briefly via email (back when I was workig on the RentVsOwn-inator) and I concur with your (and IR2's) characterization of him.

I'm actually glad he commented that IHB will continue on and maybe it will get back to a less commercial blog. This is not to say that Larry's work wasn't great... I admire him for being able to post daily, find YouTube videos to fit each post and all the other stuff... but it did tend to generalize a bit. I liked it when he was mixing up content and brought in that data analysis partner that really made some interesting posts.

Maybe Zovall will let me do a 3CWG pictorial? If anything... that will drive BK crazy from all the ugliness.

Agreed, I've had a chance to meet Zovall and his wife a handful of times at the IHB gatherings and there are both very nice.  I do give credit to Larry for having started IHB with Zovall and proving so much useful information.  The only issue that I had with Larry is how he went about making some of the decisions that he made in regards to the IHB forums.  I think if he was a bit more out-of-the-box with his thinking, the IHB forums would still be around today, just a shame how everything ended so abruptly.  But hey, everything happens for reason and I wish him and Zovall all the luck in the world on their current and future ventures.

perhaps IHB could live as the forums and TI and IHB can become one?  the knowledge in the IHB forum archives is immense and i believe there were more forum members there than here at TI.

When a moderator trying to monetize a website it is really hard to do with RE. A moderator must be impartial and often has to be emotionally distant. That is where the problem is.

Both USC and IR utilize the forum platform well to get business but first they must demonstrate knowledge, skills, poise and most importantly emotional interaction and personality. Neither Irvine Renter nor Zovall demonstrated the most important parts.

I hope both take this as constructive criticism and have a prosperous venture.
