I just wanted to wish everyone here a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

I thought it would be fun to talk about what everyone is planning and especially what's on the menu : :D

For me, the plans are still fluid.  We will likely hang out with my wife's family.  Turkey and all the usual fare are probably in the plans but I am really interested in doing a prime rib (from Costco).  I also have some thought from getting a prepared meal from Pavilions.

I think since I joined the IHB a few years ago... we have been doing fried turkey every TDay.

I guess once you go fried... you can never go back to baked.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Since my wife and I are newlyweds and just bought our place in Irvine, our family chose us to host this year.

Going to do Prime Rib, Turkey, and all the trimmings this year, but we are skipping the honey ham.  (Gotta be able to fit in my suit for the company Christmas party  ;))

No donuts? :D

(sorry... but you are going to hear that from me forever now)

LOL, I know!

To tell you the truth, I dislike donuts...  :(

You are dead to me.

It is inhuman to dislike donuts.

I don't really care for donuts but every once in awhile I get one.  I like Asian bakery goods a lot more.  JS/JJ Bakery on Jeffrey and 85 degrees.

I've found that most Asians are not really into overly sweet things like donuts or american cakes.
Yet many donuts stores are owned by asians.

Is that why cupcake shops don't do well in Irvine? This doesn't bode well for Nothing Bundt Cakes.

... and back on topic:

TDay is a particularly hectic day for us as it's always minimum 3 get-togethers, my side and then 2 on her side. Sometimes we get a 4th thing which is our friends but that hasn't happened in a while.

At least 1 of the 3 are serving non-traditional food so you don't get tryptophan'ed into a coma.

We would fry the turkey in our 3rd car garage... but since we don't have that anymore...it goes to the backyard... but this year it's not at our house so we don't have to worry about it (or the possibility of rain).

We used to watch a movie on TDay but with so many places to go to... that doesn't happen anymore. Our drive isn't as far as others (we only have to go from Irvine to South County to North County... which is why we like to live in Irvine) and it's easier now that the kids are older.

Immigrants without job and language skills operate markets and Donut/Chinese food in ghetto cities from South LA to Carson as their family livelihood. Major chains hesitate to go in to the area so the Asian mom and pop shops have no competitions. Due to low overhead and start up cost these shops are ideal for families who also can put the kids to work or drag them along to save the cost of childcare.

Just another campfire trivia.

So the final menu for Stop 1:

Fried turkey
Ham
Bacon wrapped string beans
Green bean casserole
Mac and cheese
Mashed potatoes
Stuffing
Cranberries
2 kinds of gravy
Apple pie
Brownies
Pecan pumpkin something (not a pie)

Stop 2 was similar but I couldn't eat there because I was stuffed to the eyebrows from Stop 1.

Stop 3 had other stuff like chinese food, chips and 2 kinds of salsa, roasted pork, fish, and spaghetti.

I actually look forward to Stop 3 as I can eat something other than Thanksgiving food.

Momo Thanksgiving

Momo Paella (the only dish I actually cooked)
