This is the model - they call you from a number, I want to say a holding number (something like a holding company). Then the number is transferred to the company.

I pressed 1 to tell the guy to get me off the list. Then he said what I am talking about. Then I told him his company called me, I didn't call him. Then he said come find me and hanged up. (Uh yeah)

I redialed the number and it was a message press any number to be removed from the list. So I couldn't call the guy back or find out what company the guy worked for.

Next time I am going to ask them tons of questions and then say never mind.

I got an automated voice call, claiming I had a tax case against me. The message told me to call the number. I didn't call the number. However, I can see how some people might since the number is from Washington DC.

This is usually a scam.

The Fed rarely calls, they will send a letter so they have proper documentation.

The IRS will never call you. They communicate by letters. If a call is needed they still send you a letter and expect you to call them. Unfortunately I'm very familiar with IRS letters.
