Surface 2?

So today was Surface 2 Day... for anyone who cares.

They redid the hardware to be thinner/lighter and longer battery life. The Surface 2 has a higher rez screen (1080p) but the Surface Pro 2 remains at 1080p.

Lots of new accessories too, the Power Cover is great as it's a keyboard and an extra battery, and both the Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 have been improved with backlighting.

I don't really like Win RT because it competes with Android and iOS with no backwards compatibility with x86 apps so only the Pro would be of interest  to me which I feel is priced too high at $899. The 2 is $449, but with RT, other makers make a full Win 8 for the same price or less.

And, you can now get it in white (but no gold).

Does anyone have a Surface here?

We have an iPad already and my wife wanted an iPad mini as well.  But compared to the iPad, the Surface RT seems like a better deal, price-wise, with Office preinstalled, etc.  But as you mentioned, it can't install the usual applications for Windows without the "app store" type model so I don't like that.  Since we're Apple-centric, it probably won't make sense for us.  I would rather buy a very small laptop.  That would be more useful for the kids in the long run.

I am typing this on one.  I have had the Pro since it was introduced and love this machine.  I still have IPhones but this device has proven more compatible with my work than an IPad.

@morekaos:

Does it have a reduce font/color setting? Just kidding.

I'm sure the Pro is more capable than an iPad after all, it's really a notebook computer tabletized. I just don't get the Surface RT product because at that price point, you can get full Win8 notebooks or even competing Win8 tablets with the benefit of backwards compatibility (as others have posted_.

I agree. I had to wait for the Pro to come out.  The RT product is a bit useless. It lacks the needed abilities of a regular laptop at the sacrifice of price.  It is not a fair trade off
