Supplemental Tax Bill?

Hi-

I'm sorry for sounding stupid, but I am a first time buyer and everything is so new to me. I have an impound account with my loan which as I understand it will pay for my property tax, and I will not have to worry about it but the lender should take care of it.

My question is about the bill I got in the mail from the Treasurer-Tax Collector-County of Orange stating that I need to pay also this supplemental tax bill.

Is this normal? I hadn't heard of this. If it helps any, I purchased a new home in Columbus Grove.

Thanks for any help you can give.

That's the bill for the difference in taxes between the assessment while in your builder's hands, versus the assessment after being purchased (for a greater amount) by you.

You could probably forward it to your loan servicer, or pay it and provide the evidence to the servicer.

In either case, you should confirm that your servicer is collecting the proper amount from you going forward.

That would include your basic tax rate on your purchase price plus any mello-roos. If the purchase price is the basis, it will by definition be enough for the supplemental bill you are concerned with.

Thanks for the link Laing_Lies.

And thanks for the info and congrats Janet! It is pretty exciting. (To buy, not pay taxes lol)

Joy -

I'm not too familiar with the Irvine communities... is it a house or condo/townhome? Will you be doing landscaping? If so, I'm currently trying to get bids for projects, myself and need recommendations of affordable companies!

Laing_Lies: It's a townhome and we have to pay 2 associations which include the landscaping. Sorry, I don't think that will help you.

Hi Joy, just curious why you bought recently with the analysis you have available on this and other blogs; what kind of financing did you use, if you're willing to share? Thanks!

Federer, of course!

Is this a trick question?

Yes! Federer!

Although based on his performance yesterday against Davydenko, I'm kinda worried about today. Djokovic looks like he may be peaking.

Sorry, I signed off after I read what I wanted to know. I bought when they were first being built because hubby and I both work in Irvine and we thought this would work out best for our needs. We got a 30yr fixed. Hope that answers your questions.

Joy,

Every supplemental tax bill I've gotten after a purchase, was my responsibility to pay (outside of escrow/impounds). Call your provider and ask before just sending the bill to them. If I had sent them the supp bill, they would not have paid it.

Congrats on the house, well done on the 30 yr fixed. Hope it all works out for you.
