Where can I find the best and/or cheapest strawberries in Orange County? Last week I stopped at a roadside farm stand in Riverside and got some for $1/lb and they were so good. Now I want more.

There are plenty of places to go to, but I doubt you will get that good of a price....

Smith Farms in Irvine off of Jeffrey and Bryan. Usually pretty tasty there.

Go to the OC Marketplace (aka the Swap Meet), at the Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. It costs you $2 to get in, but they have a couple of produce stands on the corner near all the cars people are selling. Going in the afternoon means they slash their prices, but it also means sometimes they don't have the best to offer, since people have picked through the good stuff. A gamble, but a fun one.

My $.02

I have been unsuccessful in my strawberry search. Ralph's had them at $1/lb but they weren't sweet.

I also got some at a stand near CSULB. They were good, but they were $3/lb and not nearly as tasty as the ones I got in Riverside.

Maybe I'll try the ones at the UCI farmers market on Saturday if I can wake up early enough, otherwise I will pass because I hate crowds.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that this weekend.

Expensive but very good strawberries can be found at Tanaka farms http://www.tanakafarms.com/. The strawberry tour is a bit expensive, but usually they have some strawberry barrels in front of the fruit stand that you can pick w/o going on the tour - you pay same price as at the fruit stand, but can pick them right off the vine & take 'em home, they are delicious.

Costco strawberries are also good and cheaper. Suspect it's due to the high volume turnaround there - the strawberries don't sit for as long as at the grocery store.
