Anyone can comment on what type of stone they used for driveway and backyard and whether or not they regret it?  Tumbled stone, not tumbled stone, aggregate, colored concrete, travertine?

For the California room, what is popular?

lovingit, I think you've analyzed your landscaping and contractor more than anyone I've ever seen.

I hope you post some pics when you finish so we can see it it all paid off :)

Aqua, we like to do our analysis before spending this kind of money.  Different contractors and architects all say different things.  So just trying to get consumer thoughts on any common mistakes.

I like paver better because they usually don't show cracks easily even when there is small earthquake. Also they are much cheaper than stone and you don't have to worry about the breaking down over time. The color choice is great as well.

We did paver for our driveway and walkways and like it a lot.  I wouldn't do colored concrete.  My neighbor did it and after less than 2 years it looks terrible and washed out because of the sun.

I've same observation about colored concrete too.  Every time I visit Diamond-Jamboree or Costco at District and notice how these colored concrete walkway faded and stained, they just don't hold the look well.  Maybe do the colored concrete on the side yard or some secondary area but definite avoid the drive way, the front yard or main area of back yard.

+1 for paver driveway.  We don't really like our travertine patio.  It only looks nice when it is wet or after acid wash.  The rest of the time the color looks dull.
