I read a couple of interesting articles in the NY Times this weekend:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/27/e...highlights-a-racial-divide.html?smid=pl-share
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/28/n...criminatory-complaint-says.html?smid=pl-share
Their main focus was on NY City's standardized admission exam for the public magnet high schools. There is a coalition of education/minority advocacy groups filing a federal complaint with the US Dept of Education saying the test violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964. They request the city change the test ?to something that is nondiscriminatory and fair to all students,?
IMHO, the test should remain the same but more efforts (both public and private) should be targeted at helping under represented minorities and poor students achieve higher scores.
What do others on TI think?
