I've always been under the impression that the carpet used on the stairs and that used on the second floor should be the same. But stair carpets wear out faster floor carpets. So if I want to replace just the carpet on the stairs, would it look funky if the stair carpet did not match that found on the floor?

I installed engineering wood flooring on my stairs because that's the one of the highest traffic area in my house.
