Springbrook Montessori

My five-year old son was accepted (lottery) into the Montessori Kindergarten class at Springbrook Elementary, starting this Fall.  We are currently renting a condo within a stone's throw of Meadow Park Elementary.  My wife checked the greatschools.com website and noted that Springbrook Elementary seems to have pretty low API scores compared to Meadow Park Elementary.  Additionally, some of the parents on the greatschools.com website expressed significant dissatisfaction with the principal at Springbrook.

I know that my son's education will depend heavily on parental involvement, but I was curious to find out if anyone has any knowledge of, or experience with, the Montessori program at Springbrook Elementary, versus "regular" kindergarten at Meadow Park.

I've been told the K program at Montessori with Ms. Szurmant is great... I'm not sure about the 1-2 programs. I've also heard good things about Meadowpark and they have been at least top 10 for the last 2 years.

Did you tour/talk to the teachers at both schools? I highly recommend that so you can get a feel for both the teacher, classroom and program. Although Springbrook does have a Montessori system, it may not be what you expect from it as they have to follow public school guidelines as well.
