Hi all,

There are plenty of suppliers of these online, but was wondering if anyone has had any luck finding any acoustic drapes locally? Anywhere in Southern California would be fine. Seems like most of the local suppliers that I've found are commercial so far.

This place has a nice echo, and I like it for downstairs, but looking to soften the upstairs up a little bit.

Thanks if anyone has any suggestions.

I just wanted to know if you found those drapes to be effective from keeping noise from the exterior of the house?  I play guitar, and would love to crank my amps up to where they can "breathe".  As anyone knows, tube amps sound their best when they are overdriven.  But a 20-30W amp is going to be a beast inside and outside of the house.

They will definitely dampen the sound but I don't think they will seal that amount of power.

I was curious to see what it would take to soundproof a room, but looks like you have to spend some bucks to get that to work, and takes some custom building or lots of acoustical materials like stage drapes and foam.

There are a few companies that sell used drapes from stages, and some of those are pretty huge. Will see if I can find the links as they are on another computer.

Basically you have to think of the room as though you were trying to seal water in. Any leaking and it will all come out. The flatter the surfaces the more echo you are going to get. Acoustical foam is pretty expensive. I've seen some people build small sound booths in their garage where they can completely seal it in if you're that serious. It's like a room within a room. Not sure how much space you have to work with.

If you're willing to spend the cash to sound proof.  Pull down that drywall and install some Roxul sound proofing insulation and use what they call resilience channels which help reduce noise vibrations in the walls.  All this stuff can be purchased at Home Depot.  But just a matter of if you're willing to take down your drywall.

Just brain dumping here a bunch of links from a few months ago when I researched it. Can't find the supplier of the stage curtains but if I do will post here. There are also acoustic windows and one of the links describes the drywall broda mentioned:
