For those of you with kids in the elementary to High School range, do you restrict or monitor their use of any type of social media?  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even regular e-mail, etc.  If you do restrict the usage, how do you enforce it?

I gave my kids some iPods for downloading music but found out they were doing Facebook and others with friends all the time, even after their bedtime, with their "friends".  I did take away most of the iPods but it's getting to be a pain locking down all the PCs.

What else do they use these days that I have to block?  Feel like the NSA here.  :P

Depending on how old they are, add snap chat, kik, whatsapp to your list. Confiscate all items with connection at bedtime. Laptops should be shut down, not hibernating. Set a password to download apps- that way they come to you begging for permission to download an app. You can make them get you a two shot espresso with one ounce milk well foamed or..ask them to make your bed depending on the app they want :) Drop the "t" word often and guilt them into being good children. I am sure at least one in hundred times, the thought "what would my parent say" works.  Trick yourself into the "h" word and continue...

Just remember: whatever you did as a teen to trick your parents, you will face thatx100. Law of Karma.

Parent to parent tips to be a PIA parent:
1. Change those passwords regularly.
2. Change Wifi password regularly and ask them to reconfig all machines/ printers/ Tvs before they can change it on their phone.
3. App password should always be yours, guard it like your locker.
4. Confiscate at 9pm, and next morning don't give it back to them until they suck up enough.. pretend that you forgot where you kept that little phone.
5. Take selfies on their phone. Preferably with a duck face. Or if you are are up to it..let Miley inspire you.

What else?

5. I don't need to do a duck face; I already look plenty ugly enough.  LOL.  Should I send this selfie to the boy my girl was chatting with?  :P

I admit I would have loved to have all of this technology when I was a teenager and have so much access to the girls in my classes.  But, when it's your kids, I don't extend the same welcome.

My kids are younger so prolly not as big as a problem as it will be in the future.  Anyways, I have a 7 year old and 10 year old.  They can't use the ipad on the weekdays at all.  They are allowed to use the ipads on the weekends, but they can only use them in our presence so that we can hear/see what they are playing or watching.  No facebook at this point.  Sounds like your kids may be older.
