Avoid northbound Culver past 5 freeway, at Farwell ave.  Polite officers, checked ID, asked if I had any alcohol, and then let me pass.

Instead of the DUI check, they should done a joint task force with the city of Santa Ana - and do a bait car or drug bust or protestution sting, etc. The last joint police operation known to the public in OC was the Anaheim protest/mini riot in downtown Anaheim. (There were multiple police agencies) I THINK - they didn't want it to come close to Disneyland. (just a guess)

Irvine is a piece of cake for cops - they probably just issue speeding tickets.

Did they bring over the armored SWAT truck to the checkpoint too? That thing must be used time to time to prove its usefulness :)

This was the reversed 911 call from a few years ago. An arm and dangerous suspect is being pursued by IPD. He was involved with a jewelry store robbery from KOHL.

I know this is old but I just saw your post stating they checked ID.  Are they allowed to ask for your ID when you have not committed a crime or are not suspected of doing so?  I thought you are only required to provide your name if asked and only have to provide ID if you are detained due to suspicion of a crime/infraction, etc.

The PoPo can do whatever they want to keep Irvine safe.

I've been asked for my ID and I was a passenger and it was 4pm in the afternoon on a Wednesday.

Another check point tonight off of Jeffery and Alton.  What's interesting is that they advertise the check-point about .5 miles before and I saw lots of people either making a U-Turn or turning into Quail Creek to get around it.  Maybe if you're too drunk, you're not smart enough to realize this alternative?

BTW, anyone know what the best way to respond to the drinking question (assuming you did have a few drinks)?  Is it best just to say no or admit it and then say it was only 2 or whatever?

Make eye contact, no giggling, and say NO.  Pretend you're sober.

And then show him your pingtest results screenshots.  Yup - that's my Friday night officer.
