Read below and answer the poll question.



From my email to wife today:

Look at the API score ("Academic Performance Index")... Alderwood at 962 is close to Bonita at 966 (and both much better than state averages), but go down to Subgroups:

Alderwood has 300 Asians with 984 average and 149 whites with 931 average

Bonita has 147 Asians with 988 average and 208 whites with 954 average



So Alderwood average is kept high because of the higher % of Asians, whites score much better in Bonita.

I'm trying to answer the poll but I don't understand it. I guess it depends on if you're asking an Asian person or a Caucasoid like me. You want to know which we prefer or which we think makes someone (anyone) racist? How does the poll relate to the picture? I think I am over-analyzing this.

Define well-being. What's the suicide rate for Asian kids?



The problem with "academic competitiveness" is that success is measured by scores, so to build a grade curve, schools give more and more repetitive tests. spelling bees and basic arithmetics...



+1 on Asian chics... too late for me but hopefully my sons will see the light.



Anyways... this is just a thought exercise... First interesting result -- people feel uncomfortable when they feel that they are being boxed into making a choice when none of the options reflects what they think... bix solved it best.
 
What is the real point here? What if you go to a school that fits one of those categories but that's not why you go there, maybe it's just your neighborhood school. Please think through your poll questions a bit more carefully and maybe someone will respond.
 
Yeah, agree the poll questions are crap, but can't edit them... Was discussing moving from QH to Turtle Ridge in the summer (gotta love the freedom of renting), wife wants to keep kids in Alderwood, this came up, I said Bonita is a better school (because it gets better results out of white kids), she called me a racist. Too scared to confront her, I came here... Never mind.

They are both excellent schools with involved parents. I think you are trying too hard if you are trying to distinguish which is better for your children's particular ancestral backround. Race is becoming amorphorous to our children.

Very true. But I fully intend to use it as an excuse if it stands in the way of my kids getting into good colleges because of test score percentiles, damn it!

You see that Trojan? Don't be like Bix after ten plus years into his marriage thinking "What if i had married an Asian girl instead?" Make sure that you marry an Asian girl and not live with any regrets. :)

So you actually think that the difference between how good those two elementary schools are, will affect your children's lives?
