Planning to take the fam here this Saturday if the weather holds up.. any tips/suggestions?  yelp says to bring lunch.. but my little one eats better when I overpay for food that she has never seen.. umbrella if too sunny?  look kinda weird..go early to avoid crowds or late?  with the living social deal/effect (24,000 sold), I expect a huge crowd..

I went once a few years ago (I think 2009 or 2010) I have been told that the animals are most active in the morning, especially on the tram tour.  I have only been once so I can't really confirm.  At every theme park I have ever been to, getting there before they open has always had amazing benefits in being less crowded.  We went on a Thursday or Friday mid morning so it wasn't too bad.

Although its not supposed to be too hot, if any sun comes out, you will feel it.  The walks can be very LONG going from one exhibit to another and have some incline/declines.

Oh and the thing I remember most,  it seemed like every little activity cost something.  So expect to pay some dollars if you want to get the most out of the park.

As 26 says... be prepared for lots of walking... up and down. And getting there as soon as they open is always better.

We actually planned out what areas we wanted to see and which ones we couldn't because we arrived so late and only had a few hours. As you go more northwest, the walk gets steeper. The southeast area is more like a zoo.

Since the deal includes the tram... you may want to skip the northern part since that's where the tram goes and concentrate your walking tour on the central/south/east area.

It gets hot (very inland) and an umbrella may be a good idea (rain or shine). If you are afraid of how crowded it is... you may want to bring a lunch because those lines will be even worse unless you eat at 10 or 2.

Have fun... and don't forget to post your pictures here (think of the animals as very raw food!).

so what activities outside the tram that cost extra $$$?
petting zoo?
...?

Umbrella if too sunny? Where do you thing you are? Even after all these years in OC, I still stare at people who use umbrella as sun shield.

Have been at the Safari Park and San Diego Zoo a couple of times lately. I think eating lunch there is part of the experience, but we always take some fruit and snacks. It's overpriced but not really that much more than Panera Bread.

Good thing is that  there are not much lines, just for the tram. Other than that it's just walking, pretty relaxing.

The cheetah run is free too... you just need to get there a little early to get a good spot to watch (I think they have a premium area you can pay for too).

@bball champ, not sure about using gift card at Target, don't see why not, I think this deal also works at The Marketplace
