The purpose of this discussion is to share with each other some of the techniques/tricks/one-liners that agents and RE sales reps often use to try and get you to buy . This is to help each other avoid getting suckered or misled.

For example:

"You're not just buying a house, you're buying a lifestyle" (I've actually heard this from at least 3 different sales agents)

"You can see the ocean from here!" (from a sales agent for a condo building 20 miles inland in the midst of high rises)

"The news reports just came out that there is no housing slump, prices actually INCREASED by 4%"

"Price doesn't really matter if it's a home you're going to 'live in' - if you love it, it's worth the extra dollars"

Any other examples or tips?

like to add one more:

one sales agent at the new Tustin / Columbus track, told me " don't you think the hanger are soo nice? you are next to the history"....

She probabaly think I am stupid...

By the way, why would anyone buy a house under those dramtic structure???? It is ugly as hell..makes one feel like living next to a industrial area...I won't want to see that thing everytime I go home...

Uhh...it is more like a sarcastic remark straight from the horse's mouth. Why is she in sales? For me, buying a house with "hangar's view" is a compromise to higher home prices, say...Quail Hill, or Woodbury. Typical of realtors to comment about an old beat up property as ..."opportunity to add your personal touches to a historic home"; or, about a tiny shack as ..."cozy, quaint".

I like when people (the ones who are going to lose their shirts in the impending crash) talk about how the market is just "plateauing." When you climb Half-Dome at Yosemite, it does plateau. . . but then there's that whole edge dropping off thing. As Martin quoted though, I do like how, yes, the prices have gone up! (If you just ignore sales dropping 90 or so percent and inventory being through the roof!)
