Running shoes usually are light and have good sole cushion (I usually by AirMax for full sole air).

I used to by low top basketball shoes for my walking/casual shoes but they are heavy. Went to cross trainers for a while but found runners to be the lightest.

For running... I don't think Nikes are the best either (I also like New Balance). But for just walking around in, they do the job.

For those of you who like lightweight and flexible casual shoes, try Go Walk by Skechers. I believe they are the lightest shoe one can buy. For ex: They say a men's size 9 weighs 6.5 oz.

I bought a pair a few months ago. They are very flexible... the most flexible I've ever seen. They can be machine washed. Imo, the "cups" or whatever they are on the bottom are kind of annoying. I feel like I'm walking on soft marbles. I don't like that. But I like how the laces can't come untied -- they don't have any. I've noticed a difference in the material. The lighter colors are a cotton blend whereas the darker and vibrant colors are a mesh. Skechers are generally junk and not worth the money but I think this shoe is one of their better products. I haven't seen the same type of shoe from another maker.

I've tried 50 pairs of running shoes but always come back to New Balance 992/993.  Everything else gives me shin splints or ankle pain.  If they ever stop making those, I'll be quite sad.

I can't remember but there is a store that advertised on ESPN radio where they measure your feet and give you free custom orthopedic insoles for your shoes with every purchase.

I am a runner and had my stride measured at the running store in Lake Forest.

They showed my stride on the computer and the pressure I made when I ran.  I also have a  very high arch.  The guy at the store told me to wear Asics Gel Nimbus, which I have been happy with.  But other Asics didn't work well for me and neither did Nike.

You really have to get tested- I wanted Mizuho at the time, but the top of the shoe box felt really short.
