in the new or Irvine builder's home, the router and the modem are installed in the master closet. We have Cox and the digital telephone modem needs to connect to a phone landline. How would they do this if the nearest phone jack is thru the master bathroom to the master?

They should had a phone jack in the closet. I'm sure we aren't the only ones.

There is a phone jack in the master closet or they plug in through any phone jack?

Correct me if I am wrong, but the hub in the master closet is where you have access to all of the cat5e which is for telecom and data ports.  The phone cables should be in the same hub box.  All of my houses has been this way.  This way you can setup repeaters anywhere you want in the house via LAN.  As for the phone, you just connect to the main RJ12 which will be routed to all of the ports in the house.  This setup you can customize which room gets which lines, if you had more than one line.  On the COX cable box, there are more outputs for phone lines.  We have our main COX box in the living room where the TV is.  Our cable modem is upstairs in the loft.

Thanks for the responses.  Those were my thoughts too but the rep told me the phone jack is located in the bedroom.  That does not make sense.  I couldn't understand why but I'll call to verify again.

Also, Cox will figure it out for you... if there is no phone jack in the closet, they could put the router somewhere else there is a coax and phone line next to.

They want your business, they will make it work.

True, but that defeats the purpose of the setup in the master closet.

They can drop a phone line into the master closet too. :)
