The Saratoga model has a French door style refrigerator and it got us wondering if we should buy one of those for our new home. We've always only ever had a side-by-side, which is fine, but is the French door fridge better?

It seems a good benefit is that you can put very long items in both the fridge and freezer, but it just feels like maybe there could be some drawbacks that I wouldn't discover until I actually use it.

Do you have a French door fridge? Do you prefer one over the other? Why?

ive had both, french door and side by side. i prefer the french door. gives you a bigger square/rectangular space to work with to organize things better. the key though is having that second fridge in the garage (regardless of the type of fridge you have inside). i dont know how i used to live with one fridge before.

get two and stick one in the garage.  we have a side by side and a French door.  Both have their uses and advantages.

Yep... I've had two fridges for 8 years... when you have kids... it's very helpful. When we rented for a year... we had 3 fridges... that was awesome.

Heh... it was more for leftovers... we ate out a lot and brought home tons of doggie bags. Problem was you would forget which fridge it was in and it would go bad by the time you found it.

Plus you could cool unlimited amounts of drinks, Gatorade etc... for PS9... he could have one dedicated to beers.

French over side-by-side for me! Things get nicely organized, and I feel freezer space is used better.
Interesting: everyone has more than one fridge.. We survive on only one, though it's filled always.

Who cleans the fridge in your house? (as in purge items, not wipe it down)

@IHO a beer fridge, good idea... I'll ask the missus :)  the standalone freezer I bought can be turned into a keg for home brewing, that sounds fun if I have the time.

@CZ I cleaned out (as in wipe down) my old fridge recently, it was pretty gross, found a dried out brown puddle on the bottom, recommend all to wipe down your fridge at least once a year.

I prefer French door, but recommend an extra freezer versus another fridge first in the garage.

I get it done by my twelve year old maid who loves $90 jeans :P
It is pretty nasty on the bottom, especially in the houses where little hands push glasses of unfinished beverages to the back so that mommy doesn't see them..
