I just joined TI and this is my 1st post.  :) I apologize if this was covered in another post, but wanted to get everyone's feedback on something. My wife and I just purchased at Sagewood in PP. Question(s): built-in or regular frig (we plan on living there for awhile so the only issue with personal property doesn't concern us as much), side-by-side or french door, and outer or inner water/ice dispenser. Any opinions and feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

if given the option i would go built in.

i like the french door look, and dont care for having a water dispenser in the fridge (inside or out). I prefer the continous stainless steel look without it being broken up by the water dispenser in the door. our fridge had an icemaker but i didnt even hook up the water line since i didnt want to deal with some potential leak down the road.

side by side is too limiting, cant put pizza boxes in there, the fit just fine in the french door fridge.

Built in is nice but costs 3x as much.  Make sure the space is refrigerator space is filled for looks and not a big gap around the side and top.

How do you guys feel about mismatched appliance brands...

I prefer stand alone because you never know what can go wrong with it -- or you might want to change flooring, get a fridge with better options (built-in TV!) or change from a side-by-side to a french.

I also think that since built-ins are counter depth, you have less interior space.

Just my .04 cents.

maybe a stupid question.  but don't refrigerator need some breathing space at the back and side which would have been entirely covered if you do a built-in ?  Wouldn't it affect the longevity of the ref ?

I would agree with irvinehomeowner though on you never know what can go wrong with it.  Our 3-yr old refrigerator gave up on us.  luckily it was still under extended warranty with Lowes and they refunded us everything we paid and also refunded us for the small chest freezer we bought to temporary store our frozen food while they were trying to fix it (before eventually giving up and just refunding us).  I could not imagine the extra cost and hassle if it would have been a built-in

if you can afford the built in, you probably dont care about the repair cost. cost of living life as a 1%er.

Haha..that's like my friend asking if he should buy a Porsche Carrera Turbo...he said I would buy one but he didn't want to pay for maintenance afterwards.....I said most people buying one of these, really don't care about the maintenance costs when you're dropping $120k plus on car.

Oil change for a Porsche is $400 at the dealer.  $232 from an authorized service center.  Oil change for my wife's Lexus is $85 w/ a car wash at the dealer and my Honda Accord is $45.  Granted Porsche's take 6 quarts of oil but that's a lot of moola.

the Porsche also only requires an oil change every 20K miles. The dealer will not change it prior to that interval.

And then you need to use mobil 1 or another synthetic oil.

that's wrong...it's 7500 miles.  And you're correct all Porsche dealers use Mobil 1.

Negative, my owners' manual and the Porsche dealers in San Diego, Newport Beach, and Marin County disagrees with you regarding earlier service.  I have called all of them in the past when i have lived close enough to use dealers in those areas and was given the same answer each time.

My car has 30K miles and has had the oil changed 2x.

The first service interval is 20K.  And then they view oil changes only required for less than the manual's specified interval if the car has been sitting without being driven for a year.  I was wrong about oil changes being every 20K (only applies to the first one), I think the following service intervals are every 10K:

I was actually told, you could go 15K, but if you don't drive the car often, maybe you would want to change the oil earlier.

And then there's the other extreme. Let's whip out our P's and compare. Damn it. Where is the irvine middle?

I would not get into a comparison contest with someone else.  I'm not the sort to buy things to show them off (e.g clothes, cars, homes, women  >:D ).  Especially when i know USCTCPA's car is better than any other Porsche i've seen in Irvine.

I think they all moved to Tustin or other less ridiculously priced areas and sold their homes to FCBs.  Which is where the smarter money would be to buy (or Aliso Viejo or Lake Forest / Foothill Ranch) because you get most of the benefit without absorbing 100% of the cost.

USC's car is very nice.....  Can I borrow it.......for a long time?  :)
