Recommendations of a good sports ortho doc?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

So not entirely on topic here, but since alot of you live near Irvine and I have heard some talk of sports, ah well.

I did alot of endurance sports and high level rock climbing for a bunch of years and now I am pretty much falling apart. I had 2 years of constant knee pain and finally had surgery from my PTs recommended doctor about 5 months ago. I had a torn meniscus and chondromalacia patella so he shaved and smoothed them both down. I have done all the right rehab, anti-inflammatories, shots, stretching, and all that but my damn knee hurts like hell 24/7. I am also seeing a foot doctor in Irvine for annoying foot pain who is very aggressive and I think is getting to the bottom of the foot pain. I think, however, someone who can put it all together and maybe do motion analysis or something else might be worth seeing.

Soo...I want to get a second opinion on the knee. Anyone have any recommendations for someone around here who does ortho surgery/correction with a sports/mechanics focus?

Thanks!

I don't know if they are the best but there are two orthos at UCI, Dr. Ross (foot/ankle) and Dr. Keister (no jokes, please - knees), who are supposed to be pretty good.

My boss' husband is a Firefighter/EMT and former football player. He blew out his knee a few years ago playing sports and asked around for a good ortho surgeon paired w/ good mechanics rehabilitation, as he wanted to continue as a firefighter. He was told by multiple medical professionals to go to the Hoag Orthopedic center. He was able to pass firefighter tests again within a year and highly recommends the team over at Hoag. He said the rehabilitation team was the best. Here's their site if you're interested. I hope it helps.

I lived in Salt Lake City for 5 years after going to Virginia Tech and learning to climb. I used to boulder all over utah and neighboring states, mostly in Little Cottonwood and was bouldering up to V8. I did both sport and trad but was definately better on sport, preferring easier Trad up to 5.10 and mountaineering type stuff. On a rope I topped out at 5.12D/5.13A before leaving for a move to Florida. I loved every single minute of it but am definately paying for my sins now... I never did much route development as Engineering School and full time jobs and wife and no $$$ mean little free time, which sucks.

You do any climbing around here? Once i get healed up I want to get back into doing easy sport and trad to start, maybe go back to Zion for some Aid. I don't think my body will be very happy with hard bouldering and falling so easy stuff and long days might be the best...

sre - Utah, sounds nice. I saw pics, but never climbed there. I used to climb at all the usual So Cal rock, and put up some routes in the The Owens River Gorge and Malibu Canyon. My body is defintely paying for the whippers, but my back is much better than five or so years ago. I am too old and fat to climb now.

Have you checked out the Orthopedic Specialty Institute in Orange? (osiortho.com) My bones are pretty messed up for being 21 and they've saved me more than once. I've had personal experience with both Dr. Carlson and Dr. Peng. Both were miracle workers on my back (L4-L5) and foot (fifth metatarsal), respectively. I'm sure their knee guy is of equal skill.

The Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Anaheim is very renowned. They are the providers for the LA/OC pro sports teams. They also have a location in LA.
