Well, typically, we deal with first-day anxiety like this:

I'm like, "One more kiss!" And they're like, "Ugh! I gotta go now!"
I say, "I'll miss you!" And they're like, "Argh. Don't hug me so hard. You're hurting me."
It takes 15 minutes to say goodbye.
After the first day, I feel a little better.  :)

And then I hugged my husband, with tears in my eyes.. he holds me and asks.. what's wrong? did you feel bad that you have to leave her at school? Kid 1 explains, she is just overwhelmed that we are growing up so fast. What? I am crying because I grew up so fast! Can't believe, my kids are in second and eighth.. oh man.. where did time go? When did I start wearing this big a pant? When did my night stand include a case for glasses?

ps9, it's eventful, no matter what grade your kid is in. New worries, new concerns, and new happiness.. know that every moment will be cherished- other than that can't prepare much! Kids really don't have much anxiety. It's mostly parents. Especially IHO and CZ. Last night we wrote a list. Apparently kid doesn't want to hear "I told you so". So she wrote down the ten commandments.. first one of course was "no lies". Second one was to "tell the truth". Third to "communicate"- good and bad. Fourth, "don't kiss". Want a laugh of the day? I told her she is not done with her vaccination, might get some diseases. Fifth "respect your teacher". Sixth "be punctual". Seventh "carry your cell phone" Eighth "don't invest emotionally into any friendship or crush" Ninth "don't starve". None of you know yet, but all you girl parents, that's something you have to talk to your kids when they are growing up. There is a pressure to look a certain way, be a certain size. Tenth "bring home everything that you take".

I am missing my kids so much. They camped out in my home office all summer long. If I was on a call, they would whisper.. but never a dull moment. Yesterday the younger one fought with older one for "hacking" her wish.. she wished on a eye lash for a dog, and older one guessed it right. The dolls got hair cut, she gave a selfie haircut.. I had blonde hair in my sheet set that I had to discuss with a client. Alright. I am going to cry me a river and pick them up in two hours :-)

Our kids are in year round school so it's already been over a month now since the new school year started.  It was a little weird starting a new school year in late July.

I know I will lose that "Father of the Year" nomination but this is how I felt.  :P

In all seriousness, it depends on your child.  Some will enjoy the experience right away and some will be clingy.  My twin daughters are very shy so they did not want to go to school on the first day when they were small but at least they had each other.  My son was a lot more social so he enjoyed it.  Still does.  Either way, as they get older (and you too) it'll get a lot easier especially after they start making friends at school.
