Rampant Cheating by PRC Students at US Schools

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Reminds me of a grad student that was applying to UCLA. Perfect verbal score on the GRE (this is an almost impossible achievement for an excellent native speaker). She comes for an in person interview and not a lick of English ...

It's not a new thing.  Even 20 years ago, they were calling UCI the University of Cheating Immigrants.  In my experience at a different university, most were a bunch of cheaters.

Some are quite open about it and they told me it's perfectly acceptable.  It's how they do things where they are from.

I'm sure they believe that "if you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough" line of thinking.

As long as the incentives outweigh the consequences, this will continue.  See baseball and steroids.

The more important issues are much broader and how this affects society. the young generations learned from their parents and there is no repercussions and punishment for cheating. The lack of moral compass is why there are endless youtube postings of Chinese doing bad things.

8,000 Chinese get expelled each year from US universities. The Chinese mainlanders are an embarrassment to the entire Chines race. Not having to live among them is considered a better quality of life. I actually would much prefer living modestly next to a Veteran cemetery when I don't have them as neighbors than living luxuriously among them in Orchard hills.

Is this true? I'm a little skeptical. At the end of the day, universities are businesses, in it to make money. I wouldn't be surprised if they turn a blind eye to most cheating even if they say they have a zero tolerance policy, especially if it were a college where they make a lot more off a foreign student than an in-state resident.

The top universities' priority is to protect their brand. Cheating tarnishes the reputation. With no reputation there will be no demand and no endowments. Their business model is based on future success of their students to becoming future CEOs, US Presidents, Supreme Court Justice, Philanthropist, Pro Athletes, political leaders, entrepreneurs, Nobel prize winners and etc.

Cheaters are a big risk. They do it now and they will do it again in the future. Those who does get caught their alma mater also pays a price.

Only the colleges for profit would keep their eyes closed.
