Rain gutters

My gutters get plugged up with pine needles every time we get Santa Ana's.  Any recs for a more permanent fix instead of cleaning it out annually?  I see ads that slip a filter over the gutter to keep debris out. Anyone has feedback on that?

All morning?  More like all day.  And my trees and the neighbors trees don't drop at the same time.

I did look at one of these.  Going back for it.

Most of my leaves are small enough to flush through the down spouts.  Or at a minimum, concentrate the leaves to the down spouts.

I usually try to clean out my gutters the same time I'm hanging my holiday lights... and then again when I take them down.

If there is an earthquake in November or January, that means I did a ps9.

So, once in December and once in July?

I'm a little clumsy and gravity and I don't mix well :)

c'mon man...pain is weakness leaving the body!

I think you can get those screens at lowes or home depot.  You'll then need to either find out if they will install it or call a contractor.

Nah I'll pass on the chance to make me bleed my own blood :) To get to the gutter would be full extension on the little giant, hanging my 132" curtains were not fun at all and that was still in A-frame.

Anyone hired a contractor to install the screens with good results, let me know.

I think you are more correct... December 24 and July 4 are probably my put up and take down days.

My rain gutters are maintenance-free!

Because there aren't any.

Coincidentally, I was just talking about having them installed... until I read this thread.

Going with these

Hopefully they snap in properly.  And my gardener is willing to do it on their next weekly visit.

Still having gutter issues, the snap on screens didn't fit my gutters so that was a no go.  During the last rains, my gutter overflowed and I woke up at 4am to the sound of splat splat splat outside.  The waterfall overflowing from my gutter was flooding a small area of my yard since the small drain for the area is not big enough to handle that much water at once.  Needless to say, it was a frustrating morning catching the runoff with trash cans and moving the excess water to the grassy areas.  Note to self:  a WM trash bin full of water is not moveable!

So now we dried off a bit and I got one of these.  Dusted off my old Black & Decker leaf blower, slapped on my supposedly univeral fit adapter and proceeded to make my gutters rain crap down on myself.  It was horrible.  The universal adapter keeps slipping off so I have to dial it down from ludicrous speed.  Then it wasn't strong enough to blow thru the tumbleweeds I have wedged in my gutters.  I finally found a better fit on the blower and was able to go full power.  It was like wrestling a giraffe having a seizure.  A great work out for my forearms.  Only able to get one tumble weed out of the gutter, the rest are still up there.  After about 30 minutes I gave up, at least I'll have popeye arms tomorrow.

Also picked up this gutter adapter to go along with my Rigid 14 gallon wet/dry vacuum.  Too tired to try tonight, maybe another day.  It can blow or suck so hopefully this will get the pine needles out.

Or maybe I should just hire some amigos to go up on my roof and clean it out like last time.  My $1 million umbrella policy is now active.

Even complained to city Public works, but never got a response.  Didn't really expect them to do anything...

I second the screens.

Some gutters are too high to maintain periodically.

I'm revisiting this thread because I didn't do gutters 2 years ago, kept putting it off, and now I really, really need to do them for real this time... El Nino better not wimp out. Iho, is there a particular kind that is more high maintenance than others? I know nada, zero, zilch about gutters. I am planning to visit Home Depot this weekend and get some brochures and info. If there's a kind to steer clear of, please let me know.

Hey SoCal,

I used Above and Beyond Rain Gutters (http://www.abovebeyondraingutters.com/) for my gutters a few years ago.  They did a very good job and I would recommend them!

You will probably end up getting 4 or 5" aluminum gutters, since they are the most common and come in many colors.

You're welcome!  :)

With the recent winds my gutters look like crap.  Amazon home service has gutter cleaning for around $150 for supposedly the whole house.  I have a $20 credit to use and a cash back site of 10%.  Gonna try it out.
